The two kings, with their hearts bent on evil, will sit at the same table and lie to each other, but to no avail, because an end will still come at the appointed time.

The kings of Syria and Egypt will sit at the same table. But in their hearts they will plan to do what is evil. And they will tell lies to each other. But it will not do them any good. God will put an end to their plans at his appointed time.

And as for the two kings, their hearts shall be bent on doing evil. They shall speak lies at the same table, but to no avail, for the end is yet to be at the time appointed.

Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time. (niv)

They plot injustice and say,“ We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the human mind and heart are cunning. (niv)

For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. (niv)

Do not eat the food of a begrudging host, do not crave his delicacies;for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost.“ Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments. (niv)
