In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel( who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.

It was the third year that Cyrus, the king of Persia, ruled over Babylon. At that time I was living in Babylon. There the people called me Belteshazzar. A message from God came to me. It was true. It was about a great war. I had a vision that showed me what it meant.

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision.

但以理在王面前，一直到居魯士王元年。

至於所提到的有關兩千三百個晚上和早晨的異象是真實的，但你要封住這異象，因為這是關於將來許多的日子。」

這樣，大流士在位的時候和波斯人居魯士在位的時候，這但以理都事事通達。

太監總管給了他們新的名字，稱但以理為伯提沙撒，哈納尼雅為沙德拉克，米沙利為米沙克，亞撒利雅為亞伯尼哥。

至於這四個年輕人，神賜給他們在各種文學和智慧上的學識和明達；但以理甚至能領悟各樣的異象和異夢。

隨後，那位天使對我說：「你當寫下：那些被邀請赴羔羊婚宴的人是蒙福的！」他又對我說：「這些都是神真實的話語。」

那時，但以理在王面前回應說：「願你的禮物歸自己，願你的賞賜給別人；然而我要為王讀出這文字，並把那釋義顯明給王。

但以理啊！你當隱藏這些話語，封住這書卷，直到末後的時期；必有許多人往來奔走，知識也必增多。」

現在我來了，要使你領悟末後的日子將要臨到你民的事，因為這異象是關於末後的日子。」

我論居魯士說：『我的牧人！他必成就我所喜悅的一切』，論耶路撒冷說：『必被重建』，又論聖殿說：『根基必被奠定。』」耶和華緊拉著居魯士的右手，讓列國降服在他面前，使君王們的腰帶鬆開；又讓門在他面前敞開，使城門也不關閉——耶和華對所膏立的居魯士如此說：

至於同一個夢向法老重複了兩次，是因為這事已被神命定，神必快速實施。

他說：「但以理啊，你只管去吧！因為這些話語已經被隱藏、被封住了，直到末後的時期。

是他改變時勢和時期；是他廢王、立王；是他賜智慧給智慧人，賜知識給有悟性的人；

是因為發現但以理裡面有超卓的靈性、有理智、有悟性，還能解夢、講解謎語、解答難題；先王給他起名為伯提沙撒。現在讓人把但以理召來，他必講明那文字的釋義。」

他指示我，對我說：「但以理啊，現在我出來，為要使你明達、有悟性！在你開始懇求的時候，就有命令發出，於是我來告訴你，因為你是蒙愛的；你當領悟這話語，要領悟這異象！

最後，那照著我神的名稱為伯提沙撒的但以理，來到我面前，他裡面有聖潔之神的靈；我就向他說了這夢：

現在我就把關乎真理的事告訴你。「看哪，在波斯又會有三個王興起！之後第四個王會擁有極大的財富，超過所有的王。他藉著自己的財富變得強盛，就挑動全國與希臘國對立。

看哪，你要成為啞巴，不能說話，一直到這些事成就的日子，因為你不相信我的話！到了時候，我的話就會應驗。」

我又聽見在烏萊運河中間有人的聲音呼喊說：「加百列啊，你當使這人領悟這異象！」
