In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel( who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.

It was the third year that Cyrus, the king of Persia, ruled over Babylon. At that time I was living in Babylon. There the people called me Belteshazzar. A message from God came to me. It was true. It was about a great war. I had a vision that showed me what it meant.

天使吩咐我說：「你要寫下來，被邀請參加羔羊婚宴的人有福了！」他又說：「這是上帝親口說的，千真萬確。」

但以理回答說：「你的禮物自己留著，你的賞賜可以給別人，不過我會為你讀這些字，解釋意思。

但以理啊，這些話要保密，要把這書封起來，直到末了。許多人必四處探究，因而知識必增多。」

「塞魯士王元年，塞魯士王就耶路撒冷的上帝之殿降下諭旨，要重建這殿作獻祭之處，要奠立殿的地基。殿要高二十七米、寬二十七米，

我來是要使你明白將來你同胞的遭遇，因為這異象是關於將來的事。」

在哈該先知和易多的子孫撒迦利亞的勸勉下，猶太人的長老建造這殿，進展順利。他們遵照上帝的命令和波斯王塞魯士、大流士和亞達薛西的諭旨，完成了建殿工程。

我說塞魯士是我的牧人，他必完成我的旨意，他會下令重建耶路撒冷，降旨奠定聖殿的根基。「我耶和華膏立塞魯士為王，我牽著他的右手幫助他征服列國、降服列王；我使城門洞開，讓他通行無阻。我對他說，

巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒曾從耶路撒冷耶和華的殿裡帶回珍貴的器皿，放在自己神明的廟裡。波斯王塞魯士將這些器皿取出來，派財政大臣米提利達如數交給猶大的首領設巴薩：

他有非凡的心智、知識和悟性，能解夢、釋謎、解惑。他叫但以理，先王給他取名叫伯提沙撒。現在可以把他召來，他必能解釋這些字的意思。」

他向我解釋說：「但以理啊，我來是要使你有智慧和悟性。你剛開始祈求，就已賜下答覆，我是來告訴你的，因為你倍受眷愛。所以你要留意以下的信息，明白異象的意思。

最後但以理來到我面前，他又名伯提沙撒——取自我神明的名，他有聖潔神明的靈。我將夢告訴他，說，

現在我要把真相告訴你。波斯將再有三位王興起，隨後的第四位王遠比其他王富有。他靠財富強盛後，便會煽動眾民去攻打希臘國。

我說的這些話到時候必定應驗。但因為你不肯相信我的話，所以這事成就以前，你將變成啞巴，不能說話。」

我聽見有人聲從烏萊河兩岸之間呼喊：「加百列啊，要讓此人明白這異象。」

他們付給石匠和木匠銀子，並經波斯王塞魯士批准，供給泰爾人和西頓人食物、酒和油，換取他們把香柏木從黎巴嫩經海路運到約帕。
