But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Daniel decided not to make himself“ unclean” by eating the king’s food and drinking his wine. So he asked the chief official for a favor. He wanted permission not to make himself“ unclean” with the king’s food and wine.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.

They won’t dwell in Yahweh’s land; but Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.They won’t pour out wine offerings to Yahweh, neither will they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat of it will be polluted; for their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into Yahweh’s house.

For I am Yahweh who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.“‘ This is the law of the animal, and of the bird, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth,to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the living thing that may be eaten and the living thing that may not be eaten.’”

Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.

Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God.

But he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no urgency, but has power over his own will, and has determined in his own heart to keep his own virgin, does well.

which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you! Let them be your protection.

who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.

Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion. for God loves a cheerful giver.

However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of the idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’t eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, won’t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

Yet if because of food your brother is grieved, you walk no longer in love. Don’t destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.Then don’t let your good be slandered,for God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
