But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Daniel decided not to make himself“ unclean” by eating the king’s food and drinking his wine. So he asked the chief official for a favor. He wanted permission not to make himself“ unclean” with the king’s food and wine.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.

But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.

Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice deeds of wickedness With people who do wrong; And may I not taste their delicacies.

Then the Lord said,“ In this way the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations where I will scatter them.”But I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, I have never been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by animals, nor has any unclean meat ever entered my mouth!”

They will not remain in the Lord’s land, But Ephraim will return to Egypt, And in Assyria they will eat unclean food.They will not pour out drink offerings of wine to the Lord, Nor will their sacrifices please Him. Their bread will be to them like mourners’ bread; All who eat it will be defiled, Because their bread will be for themselves alone; It will not enter the house of the Lord.

For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt, to be your God; so you shall be holy, because I am holy.’ ”This is the law regarding the animal and the bird, and every living thing that moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth,to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and the creature which is not to be eaten.

Look at the people of Israel; are those who eat the sacrifices not partners in the altar?What do I mean then? That food sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?No, but I say that things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become partners with demons.You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

Leave me, you evildoers, So that I may comply with the commandments of my God.

But the one who stands firm in his heart, if he is not under constraint, but has authority over his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep his own virgin, he will do well.

Those who ate the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you, Let them be your protection!

Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord;

Each one must do just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

The king also allotted for them a daily ration from the king’s choice food and from the wine which he drank, and ordered that they be educated for three years, at the end of which they were to enter the king’s personal service.

But if anyone says to you,“ This is meat sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it, for the sake of that one who informed you and for the sake of conscience;Now by“ conscience” I do not mean your own, but the other person’s; for why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience?If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered about that for which I give thanks?Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

However, not all people have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.Now food will not bring us close to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat.But take care that this freedom of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.For if someone sees you, the one who has knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will his conscience, if he is weak, not be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

For if because of food your brother or sister is hurt, you are no longer walking in accordance with love. Do not destroy with your choice of food that person for whom Christ died.Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

But Peter said,“ By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean.”Again a voice came to him a second time,“ What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.”This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.

So behold, I intend to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, just as the Lord spoke to David my father, saying,‘ Your son, whom I will put on your throne in your place, he will build the house for My name.’

Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord do so to me, and worse, if anything but death separates me from you.”When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her about it.

They also followed Baal peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
