God gave these four young men an unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom. And God gave Daniel the special ability to interpret the meanings of visions and dreams.

He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.”

Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws.I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!

In the third year of the reign of King Cyrus of Persia, Daniel( also known as Belteshazzar) had another vision. He understood that the vision concerned events certain to happen in the future— times of war and great hardship.

And the Lord said to them,“ Now listen to what I say:“ If there were prophets among you, I, the Lord, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams.

God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. This, too, is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

and rescued him from all his troubles. And God gave him favor before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. God also gave Joseph unusual wisdom, so that Pharaoh appointed him governor over all of Egypt and put him in charge of the palace.

Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”

“ I said to him,‘ Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too great for you to solve. Now tell me what my dream means.“‘ While I was lying in my bed, this is what I dreamed. I saw a large tree in the middle of the earth.

God gave Solomon very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore.In fact, his wisdom exceeded that of all the wise men of the East and the wise men of Egypt.He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite and the sons of Mahol— Heman, Calcol, and Darda. His fame spread throughout all the surrounding nations.

Moses was taught all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was powerful in both speech and action.

The farmer knows just what to do, for God has given him understanding.

When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice.

Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success.

There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods. During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your predecessor, the king— your predecessor King Nebuchadnezzar— made him chief over all the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and fortune tellers of Babylon.This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

Earlier, during the first year of King Belshazzar’s reign in Babylon, Daniel had a dream and saw visions as he lay in his bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is what he saw.

The next morning Pharaoh was very disturbed by the dreams. So he called for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. When Pharaoh told them his dreams, not one of them could tell him what they meant.Finally, the king’s chief cup bearer spoke up.“ Today I have been reminded of my failure,” he told Pharaoh.“ Some time ago, you were angry with the chief baker and me, and you imprisoned us in the palace of the captain of the guard.One night the chief baker and I each had a dream, and each dream had its own meaning.There was a young Hebrew man with us in the prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant.And everything happened just as he had predicted. I was restored to my position as cup bearer, and the chief baker was executed and impaled on a pole.”Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he went in and stood before Pharaoh.Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.”

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.

I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!”

During the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign, I, Daniel, saw another vision, following the one that had already appeared to me.

You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel and think no secret is hidden from you.

That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven.

None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.
