耶和華先前怎樣喜愛善待你們，使你們增多，耶和華也要照樣喜愛消滅你們，使你們滅絕。你們必從所要進去得為業的地上被拔除。耶和華必把你們分散在萬民中，從地的這邊到地的另一邊，在那裏你必事奉你和你列祖不認識的神明，就是木頭和石頭。在那些國中，你必得不到安寧，腳掌也沒有安歇之處；耶和華卻要使你在那裏心中發顫，眼目失明，精神沮喪。

圍困的日子滿了，你要把三分之一放在城中用火焚燒；三分之一放在城的四圍用刀砍碎；三分之一任風吹散，我要拔刀追趕它們。

因為耶和華的眼目遍察全地，要堅固向他存純正之心的人。你在這事上行得愚昧；因此，以後你必有戰爭。」

至於你們倖存的人，我要使他們在敵人之地心中驚慌，甚至風吹落葉的聲音也把他們嚇跑。他們要逃避，像人逃避刀劍，雖無人追趕，卻要跌倒。雖然無人追趕，他們卻要彼此絆倒，像逃避刀劍一樣。你們在仇敵面前必站立不住。你們要在列國中滅亡，敵人之地要吞滅你們，你們倖存的人必因自己的罪孽在敵人之地衰殘，也要因祖先的罪孽衰殘。

這全地的人，三分之二將被剪除而死，三分之一仍必存留。這是耶和華說的。我要使這三分之一經過火，熬煉他們，如熬煉銀子；試煉他們，如試煉金子。他們要求告我的名，我必應允他們。我說：「這是我的子民。」他們要說：「耶和華是我的上帝。」
