All the sinners among my people will die by the sword, all those who say,‘ Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’

All the sinners among my people will be killed by swords. They say,‘ Nothing bad will ever happen to us.’

All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say,‘ Disaster shall not overtake or meet us.’

All the sinners among my people who say,“ Disaster will never overtake or confront us,” will die by the sword.

All the sinners of My people will die by the sword, Those who say,‘ The catastrophe will not overtake or confront us.’

All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword, Who say,‘ The calamity shall not overtake nor confront us.’

All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, The evil shall not overtake nor meet us.

All the sinners among My people who say:“ Disaster will never overtake or confront us,” will die by the sword.

You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.

The sinners in Jerusalem shake with fear. Terror seizes the godless.“ Who can live with this devouring fire?” they cry.“ Who can survive this all consuming fire?”

Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.“ I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never ending fire.”

That is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the righteous,throwing the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The wicked think,“ God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem, and you who feel secure in Samaria! You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help.

I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes— feed them justice!“ And as for you, my flock, this is what the Sovereign Lord says to his people: I will judge between one animal of the flock and another, separating the sheep from the goats.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says,“ The day of judgment is coming, burning like a furnace. On that day the arrogant and the wicked will be burned up like straw. They will be consumed— roots, branches, and all.

I will purge you of all those who rebel and revolt against me. I will bring them out of the countries where they are in exile, but they will never enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm.’”

“ Come,” they say,“ let’s get some wine and have a party. Let’s all get drunk. Then tomorrow we’ll do it again and have an even bigger party!”

Then the people said,“ Come on, let’s plot a way to stop Jeremiah. We have plenty of priests and wise men and prophets. We don’t need him to teach the word and give us advice and prophecies. Let’s spread rumors about him and ignore what he says.”

They even mock God and say,“ Hurry up and do something! We want to see what you can do. Let the Holy One of Israel carry out his plan, for we want to know what it is.”

When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.

The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

On that day you will no longer need to be ashamed, for you will no longer be rebels against me. I will remove all proud and arrogant people from among you. There will be no more haughtiness on my holy mountain.Those who are left will be the lowly and humble, for it is they who trust in the name of the Lord.The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will never tell lies or deceive one another. They will eat and sleep in safety, and no one will make them afraid.”

Therefore, listen to this message from the Lord, you scoffing rulers in Jerusalem.You boast,“ We have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave. The coming destruction can never touch us, for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception.”

Two thirds of the people in the land will be cut off and die,” says the Lord.“ But one third will be left in the land.I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say,‘ These are my people,’ and they will say,‘ The Lord is our God.’”

“ But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the Lord.Then once more the Lord will accept the offerings brought to him by the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as he did in the past.“ At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
