Those who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god lives, O Dan,’ and,‘ As the Way of Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again.”

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria— who say,‘ As surely as your god lives, Dan,’ or,‘ As surely as the god of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”

Some people make promises in the name of Samaria’s god. That god has led them astray. Others say,‘ People of Dan, you can be sure that your god is alive.’ Still others say,‘ You can be sure that Beersheba’s god is alive.’ But all these people will fall dead. They will never get up again.”

And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba— they will all fall down, never to rise again.”

Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say,“ As your god lives, Dan,” or,“ As the way of Beer-sheba lives”— they will fall, never to rise again.

As for those who swear by the guilt of Samaria, And say,‘ As your god lives, Dan,’ And,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives,’ They will fall and not rise again.”

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, Who say,‘ As your god lives, O Dan!’ And,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives!’ They shall fall and never rise again.”

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, As thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, As the way of Beer- sheba liveth; they shall fall, and never rise up again.

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

These are the ones who now take oaths in the name of the sinful idol goddess of Samaria. They vow,‘ As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or‘ As surely as your beloved one lives, O Beer Sheba!’ But they will fall down and not get up again.”

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god, Dan, lives;’ and,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives;’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”

but do not seek Bethel, and do not enter into Gilgal or cross over to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into exile, and Bethel shall come to nothing.”

Then I took the sinful thing, the calf that you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I threw the dust of it into the brook that ran down from the mountain.

So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people,“ You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves metal images, idols skillfully made of their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of them,“ Those who offer human sacrifice kiss calves!”

“ Then you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of the sword that I am sending among you.’

those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens, those who bow down and swear to the Lord and yet swear by Milcom,

Bless, O Lord, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; crush the loins of his adversaries, of those who hate him, that they rise not again.”

About that time there arose no little disturbance concerning the Way.

Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise!

but have come back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you,“ Eat no bread and drink no water,” your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the donkey stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body.And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown in the road and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said,“ It is the man of God who disobeyed the word of the Lord; therefore the Lord has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word that the Lord spoke to him.”And he said to his sons,“ Saddle the donkey for me.” And they saddled it.And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the donkey.And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back to the city to mourn and to bury him.And he laid the body in his own grave. And they mourned over him, saying,“ Alas, my brother!”And after he had buried him, he said to his sons,“ When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.For the saying that he called out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places that are in the cities of Samaria shall surely come to pass.”After this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people. Any who would, he ordained to be priests of the high places.And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.

And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”

And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise.

Though you play the whore, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty. Enter not into Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and swear not,“ As the Lord lives.”

I have spurned your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?For it is from Israel; a craftsman made it; it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.

Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword; their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.

“ Fallen, no more to rise, is the virgin Israel; forsaken on her land, with none to raise her up.”

and say,‘ Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the disaster that I am bringing upon her, and they shall become exhausted.’” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

But Jehu did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin— that is, the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan.

He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.

The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced over it and over its glory— for it has departed from them.

He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.

But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus.

But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets,

He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and he fortified the hill and called the name of the city that he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.

who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
