Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel:“ Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.

Amaziah was priest of Bethel. He sent a message to Jeroboam, the king of Israel. He said,“ Amos is making evil plans against you right here in Israel. The people in the land can’t stand to listen to what he’s saying.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel:“ Amos is hatching a plot against you right here on your very doorstep! What he is saying is intolerable.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent this message to King Jeroboam of Israel:“ Amos is conspiring against you in the very heart of the kingdom of Israel! The land cannot endure all his prophecies.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

Then the officials said to the king,“ Please have this man put to death, since he is discouraging the men of war who are left in this city and all the people, by speaking words like these to them; for this man is not seeking the well being of this people, but rather their harm.”

Yet when Jeremiah finished speaking everything that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying,“ You must die!Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying,‘ This house will be like Shiloh and this city will be in ruins, without inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered to Jeremiah at the house of the Lord.When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and sat at the entrance of the New Gate of the Lord’s house.Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the officials and to all the people, saying,“ A death sentence for this man! For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears!”

And he made houses on high places, and appointed priests from all the people who were not of the sons of Levi.Jeroboam also instituted a feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made. And he stationed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel became king in Samaria, and reigned for forty one years.He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not abandon all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, into which he misled Israel.

After this event, Jeroboam did not abandon his evil way, but he again appointed priests of the high places from all the people; anyone who wanted, he ordained, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

“ The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to be the overseer of the house of the Lord for every insane person who prophesies, to put him in the stocks and in the iron collar.So now, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who prophesies to you,

Now when they heard this, they were infuriated, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah the son of Hananiah was there; and he arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”But Jeremiah said,“ A lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans”; yet he would not listen to him. So Irijah arrested Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.Then the officials were angry at Jeremiah and they beat him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made it into the prison.

And they began to bring charges against Him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer, who was chief overseer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things,Pashhur had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put him in the stocks that were at the upper Benjamin Gate, which was by the house of the Lord.Then on the next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him,“ Pashhur is not the name the Lord has called you, but rather Magor missabib.

When He entered the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”

For we have found this man a public menace and one who stirs up dissensions among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Then they said,“ Come and let’s devise plans against Jeremiah. Certainly the Law is not going to be lost by the priest, nor advice by the wise, nor the divine word by the prophet! Come, and let’s strike at him with our tongue, and let’s pay no attention to any of his words.”

saying,“ We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.”

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is this you, the cause of disaster to Israel?”

“ So now you intend to assert yourselves against the kingdom of the Lord through the sons of David, being a great multitude and having with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made for you as gods.Have you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests like the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a bull and seven rams, even he may become a priest of things that are not gods.

Then his brothers said to him,“ Are you actually going to reign over us? Or are you really going to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
