The Lord God has sworn by himself, declares the Lord, the God of hosts:“ I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his strongholds, and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.”

The Sovereign Lord has sworn by himself— the Lord God Almighty declares:“ I abhor the pride of Jacob and detest his fortresses; I will deliver up the city and everything in it.”

The Lord and King has made a promise in his own name. He is the Lord God who rules over all. He announces,“ I hate the pride of Jacob’s people. I can’t stand their forts. I will hand the city of Samaria and everything in it over to their enemies.”

The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says:“ I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”

The Lord GOD has sworn by himself— this is the declaration of the LORD, the God of Armies: I loathe Jacob’s pride and hate his citadels, so I will hand over the city and everything in it.

The Lord God has sworn by Himself, the Lord God of armies has declared:“ I loathe the arrogance of Jacob, And detest his citadels; Therefore I will give up the city and all it contains.”

The Lord GOD has sworn by Himself, The Lord God of hosts says:“ I abhor the pride of Jacob, And hate his palaces; Therefore I will deliver up the city And all that is in it.”

The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

The Lord God has sworn by Himself— this is the declaration of Yahweh, the God of Hosts: I loathe Jacob’s pride and hate his citadels, so I will hand over the city and everything in it.

The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

The sovereign LORD confirms this oath by his very own life. The LORD, the God who commands armies, is speaking:“ I despise Jacob’s arrogance; I hate their fortresses. I will hand over to their enemies the city of Samaria and everything in it.”

“ The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself,” says Yahweh, the God of Armies:“ I abhor the pride of Jacob, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.

The Lord of hosts has sworn by himself: Surely I will fill you with men, as many as locusts, and they shall raise the shout of victory over you.

The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob:“ Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

The Lord God has sworn by his holiness that, behold, the days are coming upon you, when they shall take you away with hooks, even the last of you with fishhooks.

But if you will not obey these words, I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.

Therefore thus says the Lord God:“ An adversary shall surround the land and bring down your defenses from you, and your strongholds shall be plundered.”

Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage;

“ If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.

‘ Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the yearning of your soul, and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.

And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,saying,“ Surely I will bless you and multiply you.”And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation.So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,

and said,“ By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

Therefore I will make Samaria a heap in the open country, a place for planting vineyards, and I will pour down her stones into the valley and uncover her foundations.All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, all her wages shall be burned with fire, and all her idols I will lay waste, for from the fee of a prostitute she gathered them, and to the fee of a prostitute they shall return.For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make lamentation like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.For her wound is incurable, and it has come to Judah; it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

The Lord has become like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel; he has swallowed up all its palaces; he has laid in ruins its strongholds, and he has multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

“ The Lord saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

When God heard, he was full of wrath, and he utterly rejected Israel.

In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.

I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.
