You lie on beds adorned with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves.

“ Woe to those who lie on beds of ivory and stretch themselves out on their couches, and eat lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall,

How terrible for you who sprawl on ivory beds and lounge on your couches, eating the meat of tender lambs from the flock and of choice calves fattened in the stall.

They lie on beds inlaid with ivory, sprawled out on their couches, and dine on lambs from the flock and calves from the stall.

你們在世上窮奢極侈，養肥了自己，竟不知屠宰的日子到了。

“人子啊！你要說預言攻擊以色列眾牧者；你要對他們說預言：‘主耶和華這樣說：以色列眾牧者有禍了！他們只顧牧養自己。牧者豈不應當牧養羊群嗎？你們吃脂油、穿羊毛，宰肥壯的羊，卻不牧養羊群。

耶和華這樣說：“牧人從獅子口中，只能奪回一雙羊腿和一角耳朵；住在撒瑪利亞的以色列人獲救也是這樣，他們只剩下一角床榻，半邊褥子（“他們只剩下一角床榻，半邊褥子”，這句原文意義不詳，或譯：“他們躺臥在華麗的床上，睡在鋪上繡花毯子的榻上”）。

行事為人要光明磊落，好像行在白晝。不可荒宴醉酒，不可放蕩縱慾，不可紛爭嫉妒。總要披戴主耶穌基督，不要為肉體安排，去放縱私慾。

“有一個財主，身穿紫色袍和細麻衣，天天奢華宴樂。

看哪！人還是歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：“我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就要死了。”

亞比該到了拿八那裡，他正在家中擺設筵席，好像帝王的筵席一樣。拿八心裡暢快，喝得爛醉如泥，所以無論大事小事亞比該都沒有告訴他，直到第二天早晨。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子才把這些事告訴他，他就嚇得魂不附體，立刻中風癱瘓了。大約過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

那些清早起來，追求濃酒，留連到晚上，以致因酒發燒的人，有禍了！在他們的筵席上，有琴、瑟、手鼓、笛和酒，但他們不理耶和華的作為，也不留心他手所作的。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂啊，你擁有許多好東西，足夠多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！’神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

他們的罪孽是出於麻木的心（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他們的罪孽是出於麻木的心”應作“他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯），他們心裡的惡念氾濫。
