The Lord made the Pleiades and Orion. He turns midnight into sunrise. He makes the day fade into night. He sends for the waters in the clouds. Then he pours them out on the surface of the land. His name is the Lord.

And it will come about on that day,” declares the Lord God,“ That I will make the sun go down at noon, And make the earth dark in broad daylight.

The One who builds His upper chambers in the heavens And has founded His vaulted dome over the earth, He who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth, The Lord is His name.

You appoint darkness and it becomes night, In which all the animals of the forest prowl about.

He reveals mysteries from the darkness, And brings the deep darkness into light.

“ Can you tie up the chains of the Pleiades, Or untie the cords of Orion?Can you bring out a constellation in its season, And guide the Bear with her satellites?

There were those who lived in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains,Because they had rebelled against the words of God And rejected the plan of the Most High.Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was no one to help.Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them from their distresses.He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart.

Whether for correction, or for His earth, Or for goodness, He causes it to happen.

He sent darkness and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His words.

To shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

And when he returned the seventh time, he said,“ Behold, a cloud as small as a person’s hand is coming up from the sea.” And Elijah said,“ Go up, say to Ahab,‘ Harness your chariot horses and go down, so that the heavy shower does not stop you.’ ”Meanwhile the sky became dark with clouds and wind came up, and there was a heavy shower. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel.

“ Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, And made the dawn know its place,So that it would take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked would be shaken off from it?

But at the morning watch, the Lord looked down on the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and brought the army of the Egyptians into confusion.He caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians each said,“ Let me flee from Israel, for the Lord is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Reach out with your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen.”So Moses reached out with his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.

I will lead those who are blind by a way they have not known, In paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn darkness into light before them And uneven land into plains. These are the things I will do, And I will not leave them undone.”

“ Can you raise your voice to the clouds, So that an abundance of water will cover you?

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Reach out with your hand toward the sky, so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.”So Moses reached out with his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.

You covered it with the deep sea as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains.They fled from Your rebuke, At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away.The mountains rose; the valleys sank down To the place which You established for them.You set a boundary so that they will not pass over, So that they will not return to cover the earth.

The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a Light dawned.”

We grope for the wall like people who are blind, We grope like those who have no eyes. We stumble at midday as in the twilight; Among those who are healthy we are like the dead.
