耶和華又曰、以東犯罪、至三至四、更逐兄弟、擊之以刃、絕無矜憫、挾怨傷人、藏怒不已、故我必罰其罪、

主如是云、以東人犯罪、至三至四、更以刃追弟、棄絕矜憫、永遠發怒、恆忿不已、故我降罰以報之、必不挽回、

This is what the Lord says:“ For three sins of Edom, even for four, I will not relent. Because he pursued his brother with a sword and slaughtered the women of the land, because his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked,

The Lord says,“ The people of Edom have sinned again and again. So I will judge them. They chased Israel with swords that were ready to strike them down. They killed the women of the land. They were angry all the time. Their anger was like a fire that blazed out. It could not be stopped.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever.

This is what the Lord says:“ The people of Edom have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They chased down their relatives, the Israelites, with swords, showing them no mercy. In their rage, they slashed them continually and were unrelenting in their anger.

The LORD says: I will not relent from punishing Edom for three crimes, even four, because he pursued his brother with the sword. He stifled his compassion, his anger tore at him continually, and he harbored his rage incessantly.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword And stifled his compassion; His anger also tore continually, And he maintained his fury forever.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity; His anger tore perpetually, And he kept his wrath forever.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever.

The Lord says: I will not relent from punishing Edom for three crimes, even four, because he pursued his brother with the sword. He stifled his compassion, his anger tore at them continually, and he harbored his rage incessantly.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

This is what the LORD says:“ Because Edom has committed three crimes– make that four!– I will not revoke my decree of judgment. He chased his brother with a sword; he wiped out his allies. In his anger he tore them apart without stopping to rest; in his fury he relentlessly attacked them.

Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;

“ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:‘ Because Edom took revenge on Judah and became very guilty by doing so,therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and kill both man and beast. I will lay it waste, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger and my wrath; they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)

The Edomites had again come and attacked Judah and carried away prisoners, (niv)

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying:“ This is what your brother Israel says: You know about all the hardships that have come on us.Our ancestors went down into Egypt, and we lived there many years. The Egyptians mistreated us and our ancestors,but when we cried out to the Lord, he heard our cry and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt.“ Now we are here at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.Please let us pass through your country. We will not go through any field or vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will travel along the King’s Highway and not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”But Edom answered:“ You may not pass through here; if you try, we will march out and attack you with the sword.”The Israelites replied:“ We will go along the main road, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We only want to pass through on foot— nothing else.”Again they answered:“ You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them with a large and powerful army.Since Edom refused to let them go through their territory, Israel turned away from them. (niv)

Edom may say,“ Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.” But this is what the Lord Almighty says:“ They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord. (niv)

Concerning Edom: This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?Turn and flee, hide in deep caves, you who live in Dedan, for I will bring disaster on Esau at the time when I punish him.If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes? If thieves came during the night, would they not steal only as much as they wanted?But I will strip Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, so that he cannot conceal himself. His armed men are destroyed, also his allies and neighbors, so there is no one to say,‘ Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.’”This is what the Lord says:“ If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, why should you go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, but must drink it.I swear by myself,” declares the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse, an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”I have heard a message from the Lord; an envoy was sent to the nations to say,“ Assemble yourselves to attack it! Rise up for battle!”“ Now I will make you small among the nations, despised by mankind.The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.“ Edom will become an object of horror; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds.As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,” says the Lord,“ so no one will live there; no people will dwell in it.“ Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pastureland, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom, what he has purposed against those who live in Teman: The young of the flock will be dragged away; their pasture will be appalled at their fate.At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble; their cry will resound to the Red Sea.Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down, spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor. (niv)

Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell.“ Tear it down,” they cried,“ tear it down to its foundations!” (niv)

But Egypt will be desolate, Edom a desert waste, because of violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood. (niv)

The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom— We have heard a message from the Lord: An envoy was sent to the nations to say,“ Rise, let us go against her for battle”—“ See, I will make you small among the nations; you will be utterly despised.The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself,‘ Who can bring me down to the ground?’Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.“ If thieves came to you, if robbers in the night— oh, what a disaster awaits you!— would they not steal only as much as they wanted? If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes?But how Esau will be ransacked, his hidden treasures pillaged!All your allies will force you to the border; your friends will deceive and overpower you; those who eat your bread will set a trap for you, but you will not detect it.“ In that day,” declares the Lord,“ will I not destroy the wise men of Edom, those of understanding in the mountains of Esau?Your warriors, Teman, will be terrified, and everyone in Esau’s mountains will be cut down in the slaughter.Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.You should not gloat over your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble.You should not march through the gates of my people in the day of their disaster, nor gloat over them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their wealth in the day of their disaster.You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble. (niv)

The word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; prophesy against itand say:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste.I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“‘ Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax,therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go.I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“‘ Because you have said,“ These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them,” even though I the Lord was there,therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said,“ They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.”You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it.This is what the Sovereign Lord says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’” (niv)

Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength?“ It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.”Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress?“ I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.It was for me the day of vengeance; the year for me to redeem had come.I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm achieved salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.I trampled the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground.”I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us— yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses. (niv)

Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. (niv)

Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.So we went on past our relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber, and traveled along the desert road of Moab. (niv)

Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country. (niv)

With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.“ Come,” they say,“ let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants. (niv)

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. (niv)

You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.”Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.” (niv)

A prophecy against Dumah: Someone calls to me from Seir,“ Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”The watchman replies,“ Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again.” (niv)

Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.Your punishment will end, Daughter Zion; he will not prolong your exile. But he will punish your sin, Daughter Edom, and expose your wickedness. (niv)

Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it!The Lord is angry with all nations; his wrath is on all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.Their slain will be thrown out, their dead bodies will stink; the mountains will be soaked with their blood.All the stars in the sky will be dissolved and the heavens rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree.My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; see, it descends in judgment on Edom, the people I have totally destroyed.The sword of the Lord is bathed in blood, it is covered with fat— the blood of lambs and goats, fat from the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.And the wild oxen will fall with them, the bull calves and the great bulls. Their land will be drenched with blood, and the dust will be soaked with fat.For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause.Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into burning sulfur; her land will become blazing pitch!It will not be quenched night or day; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever pass through it again.The desert owl and screech owl will possess it; the great owl and the raven will nest there. God will stretch out over Edom the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation.Her nobles will have nothing there to be called a kingdom, all her princes will vanish away.Thorns will overrun her citadels, nettles and brambles her strongholds. She will become a haunt for jackals, a home for owls.Desert creatures will meet with hyenas, and wild goats will bleat to each other; there the night creatures will also lie down and find for themselves places of rest.The owl will nest there and lay eggs, she will hatch them, and care for her young under the shadow of her wings; there also the falcons will gather, each with its mate.Look in the scroll of the Lord and read: None of these will be missing, not one will lack her mate. For it is his mouth that has given the order, and his Spirit will gather them together.He allots their portions; his hand distributes them by measure. They will possess it forever and dwell there from generation to generation. (niv)

I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry, for then they would faint away because of me— the very people I have created. (niv)

“ In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,and do not give the devil a foothold. (niv)

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children (niv)

“ I have loved you,” says the Lord.“ But you ask,‘ How have you loved us?’“ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord.“ Yet I have loved Jacob, (niv)

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? (niv)
