However, the Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands. As the prophet says,

This is what the Lord says:“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place?My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

“ This must be a magnificent Temple because our God is greater than all other gods.But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?

“ He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man made temples,and human hands can’t serve his needs— for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.

“ But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!

If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,

When the Most High assigned lands to the nations, when he divided up the human race, he established the boundaries of the peoples according to the number in his heavenly court.

I will thank the Lord because he is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

“ After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.

For this has been decreed by the messengers; it is commanded by the holy ones, so that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world. He gives them to anyone he chooses— even to the lowliest of people.”

“‘ This is what the dream means, Your Majesty, and what the Most High has declared will happen to my lord the king.You will be driven from human society, and you will live in the fields with the wild animals. You will eat grass like a cow, and you will be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.

“ But will God really live on earth among people? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!

But you, O Lord, will be exalted forever.

A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High.

They look everywhere except to the Most High. They are as useless as a crooked bow. Their leaders will be killed by their enemies because of their insolence toward me. Then the people of Egypt will laugh at them.
