The Twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said,“ It would not be right for us to give up preaching the word of God to wait on tables.

十二使徒告眾門徒曰、我儕不傳天主道、而司几席非所宜也、

十二宗徒因召同人至、曰：『為几筵之事而曠傳道之職、非所宜也。

So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said,“ It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.

So the 12 apostles gathered all the believers together. They said,“ It wouldn’t be right for us to give up teaching God’s word. And we’d have to stop teaching to wait on tables.

And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said,“ It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables.

So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said,“ We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program.

So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said,“ It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.

Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said,“ It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.

And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables.

Then the Twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said,“ It would not be right for us to give up preaching about God to handle financial matters.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples[ unto them], and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

So the twelve called the whole group of the disciples together and said,“ It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to wait on tables.

The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said,“ It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

“ What you’re doing is not good,” Moses’s father-in-law said to him.“ You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can’t do it alone.Now listen to me; I will give you some advice, and God be with you. You be the one to represent the people before God and bring their cases to him.Instruct them about the statutes and laws, and teach them the way to live and what they must do.But you should select from all the people able men, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hating dishonest profit. Place them over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.They should judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you every major case but judge every minor case themselves. In this way you will lighten your load, and they will bear it with you.If you do this, and God so directs you, you will be able to endure, and also all these people will be able to go home satisfied.”Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.So Moses chose able men from all Israel and made them leaders over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.They judged the people at all times; they would bring the hard cases to Moses, but they would judge every minor case themselves.

“ I said to you at that time: I can’t bear the responsibility for you on my own.The LORD your God has so multiplied you that today you are as numerous as the stars of the sky.May the LORD, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times more, and bless you as he promised you.But how can I bear your troubles, burdens, and disputes by myself?Appoint for yourselves wise, understanding, and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will make them your leaders.“ You replied to me,‘ What you propose to do is good.’

No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer.

So Moses asked the LORD,“ Why have you brought such trouble on your servant? Why are you angry with me, and why do you burden me with all these people?Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth so you should tell me,‘ Carry them at your breast, as a nursing mother carries a baby,’ to the land that you swore to give their ancestors?Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are weeping to me,‘ Give us meat to eat!’

So I sent messengers to them, saying,“ I am doing important work and cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”

For it seems unreasonable to me to send a prisoner without indicating the charges against him.”

So what is to be done? They will certainly hear that you’ve come.

Peter and John answered them,“ Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;
