No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.

No outsider dared to join them. But the people thought highly of them.

None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem.

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.

Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,saying:“‘ Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.

His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.But it has happened to them according to the true proverb:“ A dog returns to his own vomit,” and,“ a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.

“ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,saying,‘ This man began to build and was not able to finish’?Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.“ Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

So Samuel did what the Lord said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said,“ Do you come peaceably?”And he said,“ Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.

“ God brings him out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox; He shall consume the nations, his enemies; He shall break their bones And pierce them with his arrows.‘ He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’“ Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.”Then Balak’s anger was aroused against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam,“ I called you to curse my enemies, and look, you have bountifully blessed them these three times!

Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;

So the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying,“ Surely we die, we perish, we all perish!Whoever even comes near the tabernacle of the Lord must die. Shall we all utterly die?”

The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites:“ Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?”

In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all,“ Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.

So she said to Elijah,“ What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”
