When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

當那些時候，耶穌應時地說：『父啊，天地的主啊，我稱謝你，因為你將這些事向智慧通達的人隱藏起來，向嬰孩卻啓示了。

但上帝卻揀選了世界上愚拙的，要使有智慧的慚愧；上帝又揀選了世界上軟弱的，要使強壯的慚愧；

於是猶太人希奇說：『這個人沒有學習過，怎麼能通曉典籍呢？』

眾人都驚訝希奇說：『看哪，這些說話的不都是加利利人麼？我們各人聽起來、怎麼是以我們自己生來的土話來聽呢？我們帕提亞人、瑪代人、以攔人和住米所波大米、猶太和加帕多加、本都和亞西亞、弗呂家和旁非利亞、埃及和靠近古利奈的呂彼亞區域的人、以及旅居的羅馬人、猶太人和歸依猶太教的人、革哩底人和亞拉伯人、我們真地聽見他們是用我們自己的語言來講論上帝的大作為呀！』眾人都驚奇，心裏很為難，就彼此對說：『這是甚麼意思啊？』

過了一會兒，旁邊站着的人上前來，對彼得說：『真實地、你也是他們中間的人；因為你的口音把你顯得明明白白了。』

彼得卻在門外站着。當下跟大祭司認識的那另一個門徒出來，向看門的女人說一聲，就帶彼得進去。那看門的使女就對彼得說：『你不也是這人的一個門徒麼？』彼得說：『我不是。』

抓住耶穌的人把他帶走，到大祭司該亞法那裏；經學士和長老已經在那裏聚集了。彼得從遠處跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子；進到裏面，就同差役坐着，要看結局怎樣。

耶穌在加利利海邊走走，看見弟兄二人，就是稱為彼得的西門、和他兄弟安得烈、撒網子在海裏；因為他們是漁夫。就對他們說：『來跟着我，我就使你們做得人的漁夫。』他們立刻撇下了網子，跟着他。從那裏往前走，他看見了另有兄弟二人，就是西庇太的兒子雅各、和他兄弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上、修整着網子，就呼召他們。他們立刻撇下了船和父親，來跟從耶穌。

他出去到了門廊，另有一個女的看見他、就對那裏的人說，『這個人、素來也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的。』

耶穌見母親和所愛的那門徒在旁邊站着，就對母親說：『媽媽，看哪，你的兒子！』

至於這不懂律法的羣眾呢，他們只是被咒詛的罷了。』

耶穌就差遣彼得約翰說：『你們去給我們豫備逾越節的筵席、讓我們喫吧。』

耶穌對那些上來要拿他的祭司長守殿官和長老們說：『你們出來、帶着刀棒、如同拿強盜麼？我天天同你們在殿裏，你們並沒有下手拿我呀！然而這是你們、的鐘點，黑暗的權勢了！』他們既捉拿耶穌，就給帶走，帶進大祭司的住宅；彼得遠遠地跟着。

有一個使女看見彼得向着火光而坐，就定睛看他說：『這個人素來也是同那人一夥的。』彼得否認說：『女子，我不認識他。』過了一會兒，另有一個人看見彼得，就說：『你、也是他們中間的人哪。』彼得說：『人哪，我不是啊。』約隔了一個鐘頭，另有一個人極力地說：『憑事實說，這個人素來也是同那人一夥的；並且呢、他是個加利利人。』彼得說：『人哪，我不曉得你在說甚麼。』立時地、他還說着話的時候、雞就叫了。
