他去和祭司長並守殿官商量，怎麼可以把耶穌交給他們。

他們又聳動了百姓、長老，並文士，就忽然來捉拿他，把他帶到公會去，

保羅看出大眾一半是撒都該人，一半是法利賽人，就在公會中大聲說：「弟兄們，我是法利賽人，也是法利賽人的子孫。我現在受審問，是為盼望死人復活。」說了這話，法利賽人和撒都該人就爭論起來，會眾分為兩黨。因為撒都該人說，沒有復活，也沒有天使和鬼魂；法利賽人卻說，兩樣都有。於是大大地喧嚷起來。有幾個法利賽黨的文士站起來爭辯說：「我們看不出這人有甚麼惡處，倘若有鬼魂或是天使對他說過話，怎麼樣呢？」

撒都該人常說沒有復活的事。那天，他們來問耶穌說：「夫子，摩西說：『人若死了，沒有孩子，他兄弟當娶他的妻，為哥哥生子立後。』

約翰看見許多法利賽人和撒都該人也來受洗，就對他們說：「毒蛇的種類！誰指示你們逃避將來的忿怒呢？

於是守殿官和差役去帶使徒來，並沒有用強暴，因為怕百姓用石頭打他們。

守殿官和祭司長聽見這話，心裏犯難，不知這事將來如何。

猶大領了一隊兵，和祭司長並法利賽人的差役，拿着燈籠、火把、兵器，就來到園裏。

祭司長和長老挑唆眾人，求釋放巴拉巴，除滅耶穌。

又說：「你們當這樣行：祭司和利未人凡安息日進班的，三分之一要把守各門，三分之一要在王宮，三分之一要在基址門；眾百姓要在耶和華殿的院內。除了祭司和供職的利未人之外，不准別人進耶和華的殿；惟獨他們可以進去，因為他們聖潔。眾百姓要遵守耶和華所吩咐的。利未人要手中各拿兵器，四圍護衛王；凡擅入殿宇的，必當治死。王出入的時候，你們當跟隨他。」利未人和猶大眾人都照着祭司耶何耶大一切所吩咐的去行，各帶所管安息日進班出班的人來，因為祭司耶何耶大不許他們下班。祭司耶何耶大便將神殿裏所藏大衛王的槍、盾牌、擋牌交給百夫長，

神的道興旺起來；在耶路撒冷門徒數目加增的甚多，也有許多祭司信從了這道。

到了早晨，眾祭司長和民間的長老大家商議要治死耶穌，就把他捆綁，解去，交給巡撫彼拉多。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老聚集在大祭司稱為該亞法的院裏。大家商議要用詭計拿住耶穌，殺他，

祭司長和文士並長老也是這樣戲弄他，說：

門徒這才曉得他說的不是叫他們防備餅的酵，乃是防備法利賽人和撒都該人的教訓。

就打發他們的門徒同希律黨的人去見耶穌，說：「夫子，我們知道你是誠實人，並且誠誠實實傳神的道，甚麼人你都不徇情面，因為你不看人的外貌。

又有大祭司亞那和該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，並大祭司的親族都在那裏，

你們要記念我從前對你們所說的話：『僕人不能大於主人。』他們若逼迫了我，也要逼迫你們；若遵守了我的話，也要遵守你們的話。
