Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them:“ My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

保罗申辩说：“无论犹太人的律法，或是圣殿，或是凯撒，我都没有干犯。”

保罗说：“我现在站在凯撒的审判台前，这就是我应当受审的地方。我并没有对犹太人做过什么不对的事，这也是你明明知道的。

这是大祭司和议会的众长老都可以给我作证的。我又从他们那里领了致弟兄们的书信，往大马士革去，要把在那里的信徒绑起来，带到耶路撒冷受刑。”

于是千夫长上前拿住他，吩咐用两条铁链捆锁，又问他是什么人，做了什么事。群众中有的喊这个，有的喊那个；因为这样乱嚷，千夫长无法知道实情，就下令将保罗带进营楼去。保罗一走上台阶，群众挤得凶猛，士兵只得将保罗抬起来。一群人跟在后面，喊着：“除掉他！”保罗快要被带进营楼时，对千夫长说：“我可以对你说句话吗？”千夫长说：“你懂得希腊话吗？那你就不是从前作乱、带领四千凶徒往旷野去的那埃及人了。”保罗说：“我本是犹太人，生在基利家的大数，并不是无名小城的公民。求你准我对百姓说话。”千夫长准了。保罗就站在台阶上，向百姓做了个手势，要他们静下来，保罗就用希伯来话对他们说：

总督示意叫保罗说话，保罗就回答：“我知道你在本国作法官多年，所以我乐意为自己申辩。你查问就可以知道，从我上耶路撒冷去礼拜到今日不过十二天。他们并没有看见我在圣殿里跟人辩论，或在会堂里、在城里煽动群众。也不能对你证实他们现在所控告我的事。但有一件事我向你承认，就是我正按着他们所称为异端的道事奉我祖宗的上帝，又信合乎律法和先知书上所记载的一切。我对上帝存着这些人自己也接受的盼望，就是义人和不义的人都要复活。因此，我勉励自己，对上帝对人，时常存着无亏的良心。

祭司长和犹太人的领袖向他控告保罗；又央求他，

保罗定睛看着议会的人，说：“诸位弟兄，我在上帝面前，行事为人都是凭着清白的良心，直到今日。”亚拿尼亚大祭司就吩咐旁边站着的人打他的嘴。这时，保罗对他说：“你这粉饰的墙，上帝要打你！你坐堂是要按律法审问我，你竟违背律法，命令人打我吗？”站在旁边的人说：“你竟敢辱骂上帝的大祭司吗？”保罗说：“弟兄们，我不知道他是大祭司；因为经上记着：‘不可毁谤你百姓的官长。’”保罗看出他们一部分是撒都该人，一部分是法利赛人，就在议会中喊着：“诸位弟兄，我是法利赛人，也是法利赛人的子孙。我现在受审问是为有关死人复活的盼望。”说了这话，法利赛人和撒都该人争论起来，会众分为两派。因为撒都该人一方面说没有复活，另一方面没有天使和鬼魂；法利赛人却承认两方面都有。于是大大地争吵起来；有几个法利赛派的文士站起来争辩说：“我们看不出这人有什么错处；说不定有鬼魂或者天使对他说过话呢！”那时争辩越来越大，千夫长恐怕保罗被他们扯碎了，就命令士兵下去，把他从众人当中抢出来，带进营楼去。当夜，主站在保罗旁边，说：“放心吧！你怎样在耶路撒冷为我作见证，也必怎样在罗马为我作见证。”

我实在是从希伯来人之地被拐来的，我在这里也没有做过什么，好叫他们把我关在牢里。”

骑兵来到凯撒利亚，把公文呈给总督，就叫保罗站在他面前。
