我答覆他们说，被告还没有和原告当面对证，又没有机会为所控的罪申辩，就被送给对方，罗马人没有这个规例。

于是彼拉多走到外面见他们，说：“你们控告这个人什么呢？”他们回答：“如果这个人没有作恶，我们就不会把他交给你。”

我查明他没有犯什么该死的罪，但是他自己既然要向皇上上诉，我就决定把他解去。

保罗刚要开口，迦流就对犹太人说：“犹太人啊，如果有犯法或邪恶的罪行，我当然要耐心听你们；

我父啊，请看，你外袍的衣边在我手中。我割下了你外袍的衣边，却没有杀你。你从此可以知道，也可以看出我手中没有邪恶，也没有过犯。我虽然没有得罪你，你却要猎取我的性命。愿耶和华在你我之间判断是非；愿耶和华在你身上为我伸冤。我的手却不敢伤害你。

原告都站在那里，他们所控诉他的，并不是我所意料的恶事。他们与他争辩的，只是他们的宗教问题；还论到一位已经死了的耶稣，保罗却说他是活着的。

耶和华我的神啊！如果我作了这事，如果我手中有罪孽，如果我以恶回报那与我为友的人，或是无故掠夺与我为敌的人，就任凭仇敌追赶我，直到追上，把我的性命践踏在地上，使我的光荣归于尘土。（细拉）

后来我接到密报，得知害他的阴谋，就立刻把他送到你那里去，并且吩咐原告到你面前来控告他。”

你亲自审问之后，就必清楚知道我们告他的一切事了。”
