Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense.“ You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted.“ Your great learning is driving you insane.”“ I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied.“ What I am saying is true and reasonable.

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

Festus answered,“ Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon.

So Pilate decided to grant their demand.He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

“ Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.

he said,“ I will hear your case when your accusers get here.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.
