他們正想法子要殺他的時候，就有話傳上去、到營部的千夫長那裏，說全耶路撒冷都紛亂了。千夫長登時帶兵和幾個百夫長，跑下去到他們那裏。他們看見千夫長和士兵，就停止不擊打保羅。於是千夫長走近前去，拉住他，發命令用兩條鐵鍊捆綁着；查問是甚麼人，作了甚麼事。
