「我就說：『主啊，他們知道我曾經到各會堂，把信靠你的人關進監獄，還鞭打他們。

我曰、主、眾知我囚信爾者、在諸會堂扑之、

我曰、主、人皆知我素囚信爾之人、在諸會堂扑之、

我曰、主、彼眾皆知我素囚信爾之人、在諸會堂撲之、

予曰：「主乎、彼等詎不知予前曾將信主者置於獄中、又於各會堂中侮辱而鞭撻之；且主之證人司諦文遇害流血時、予亦在場、顧而樂之、並為兇手守衣焉。」

“‘ Lord,’ I replied,‘ these people know that I went from one synagogue to another to imprison and beat those who believe in you.

“‘ But Lord,’ I argued,‘ they certainly know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.

“ But I said,‘ Lord, they know that in synagogue after synagogue I had those who believed in you imprisoned and beaten.

So I said,‘ Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believe on You.

And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

“ But I said,‘ Lord, they know that in synagogue after synagogue I had those who believed in You imprisoned and beaten.

And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

I replied,‘ Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat those in the various synagogues who believed in you.

I said,‘ Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.

But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the courts and flog you in their synagogues;

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and putting both men and women into prisons,

But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and he would drag away men and women and put them in prison.

“ So I thought to myself that I had to act in strong opposition to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, after receiving authority from the chief priests, but I also cast my vote against them when they were being put to death.And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and since I was extremely enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.“ While so engaged, as I was journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests,
