Paul went by land to Assos, where he had arranged for us to join him, while we traveled by ship.

“ You must celebrate the Festival of Harvest with the first crop of the wheat harvest, and celebrate the Festival of the Final Harvest at the end of the harvest season.

“ After several years away, I returned to Jerusalem with money to aid my people and to offer sacrifices to God.

“ And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what awaits me,

They stopped first at the port of Ephesus, where Paul left the others behind. While he was there, he went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews.

He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it.

As he left, however, he said,“ I will come back later, God willing.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

We went ashore, found the local believers, and stayed with them a week. These believers prophesied through the Holy Spirit that Paul should not go on to Jerusalem.

I am planning to go to Spain, and when I do, I will stop off in Rome. And after I have enjoyed your fellowship for a little while, you can provide for my journey.But before I come, I must go to Jerusalem to take a gift to the believers there.For you see, the believers in Macedonia and Achaia have eagerly taken up an offering for the poor among the believers in Jerusalem.They were glad to do this because they feel they owe a real debt to them. Since the Gentiles received the spiritual blessings of the Good News from the believers in Jerusalem, they feel the least they can do in return is to help them financially.As soon as I have delivered this money and completed this good deed of theirs, I will come to see you on my way to Spain.
