The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God,as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:“ I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”—“ a voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. The one who comes from heaven is above all.He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. He answered,‘ I will, sir,’ but he did not go.“ Which of the two did what his father wanted?”“ The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. Then I remembered what the Lord had said:‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ (niv)

“ You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light. (niv)
