In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

“ God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.

“ Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent,

So having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now proclaiming to mankind that all people everywhere are to repent,

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent:

In the past, he let all nations go their own way.

His followers will preach in his name. They will tell others to turn away from their sins and be forgiven. People from every nation will hear it, beginning at Jerusalem.

God’s grace has now appeared. By his grace, God offers to save all people.His grace teaches us to say no to godless ways and sinful desires. We must control ourselves. We must do what is right. We must lead godly lives in today’s world.

God gave Christ as a sacrifice to pay for sins through the spilling of his blood. So God forgives the sins of those who have faith. God did all this to prove that he does what is right. He is a God of mercy. So he did not punish for their sins the people who lived before Jesus lived.

You have spent enough time in the past doing what ungodly people choose to do. You lived a wild life. You longed for evil things. You got drunk. You went to wild parties. You worshiped statues of gods, which the Lord hates.

Here is what I’m telling you. I am speaking for the Lord as I warn you. You must no longer live as the Gentiles do. Their thoughts don’t have any purpose.They can’t understand the truth. They are separated from the life of God. That’s because they don’t know him. And they don’t know him because their hearts are stubborn.They have lost all feeling for what is right. So they have given themselves over to all kinds of evil pleasures. They take part in every kind of unclean act. And they are full of greed.But that is not the way of life in Christ that you learned about.You heard about Christ and were taught about life in him. What you learned was the truth about Jesus.You were taught not to live the way you used to. You must get rid of your old way of life. That’s because it has been made impure by the desire for things that lead you astray.You were taught to be made new in your thinking.You were taught to start living a new life. It is created to be truly good and holy, just as God is.So each of you must get rid of your lying. Speak the truth to your neighbor. We are all parts of one body.Scripture says,“ When you are angry, do not sin.”( Psalm 4:4) Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.Don’t give the devil a chance.Anyone who has been stealing must never steal again. Instead, they must work. They must do something useful with their own hands. Then they will have something to give to people in need.Don’t let any evil talk come out of your mouths. Say only what will help to build others up and meet their needs. Then what you say will help those who listen.Do not make God’s Holy Spirit mourn. The Holy Spirit is the proof that you belong to God. And the Spirit is the proof that God will set you completely free.Get rid of all hard feelings, anger and rage. Stop all fighting and lying. Don’t have anything to do with any kind of hatred.Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.

I will save you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to themto open their eyes. I want you to turn them from darkness to light. I want you to turn them from Satan’s power to God. I want their sins to be forgiven. They will be forgiven when they believe in me. They will have their place among God’s people.’“ So then, King Agrippa, I obeyed the vision that appeared from heaven.First I preached to people in Damascus. Then I preached in Jerusalem and in all Judea. And then I preached to the Gentiles. I told them to turn away from their sins to God. The way they live must show that they have turned away from their sins.

Do you disrespect God’s great kindness and favor? Do you disrespect God when he is patient with you? Don’t you realize that God’s kindness is meant to turn you away from your sins?

“ The time has come,” he said.“ The kingdom of God has come near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!”

Don’t let anyone fool you with worthless words. People who say things like that aren’t obeying God. He is angry with them.So don’t go along with people like that.At one time you were in the dark. But now you are in the light because of what the Lord has done. Live like children of the light.

They went out. And they preached that people should turn away from their sins.

When they heard this, they didn’t object anymore. They praised God. They said,“ So then, God has allowed even Gentiles to turn away from their sins. He did this so that they could live.”

Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory.

So turn away from your sins. Turn to God. Then your sins will be wiped away. The time will come when the Lord will make everything new.

As I walked around, I looked carefully at the things you worship. I even found an altar with to an unknown god written on it. So you don’t know what you are worshiping. Now I am going to tell you about this‘ unknown god.’

I tell you, it is the same in heaven. There is joy in heaven over one sinner who turns away from sin.”

I have told both Jews and Greeks that they must turn away from their sins to God. They must have faith in our Lord Jesus.

He said,“ Turn away from your sins! The kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we are certainly not sorry about that! But worldly sadness brings death.

I tell you, no! But unless you turn away from your sins, you will all die too.”

They didn’t think it was important to know God. So God let them continue to have evil thoughts. They did things they shouldn’t do.

You should obey your Father. You shouldn’t give in to evil desires. They controlled your life when you didn’t know any better.The God who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do.

When you did these things, I kept silent. So you thought I was just like you. But now I’m going to bring you to court. I will bring charges against you.

From that time on Jesus began to preach.“ Turn away from your sins!” he said.“ The kingdom of heaven has come near.”
