对他所说的话，有些人信从了，有些人却不相信。

他们当中有些人被说服了，就跟从了保罗和赛拉斯；不但有一大群敬神的希腊人，还有不少显要的妇女。但那些不肯信从的犹太人嫉妒了，就招聚一些市井无赖，成群结伙，扰乱城市。他们闯进耶森的家，搜寻保罗和赛拉斯，要把他们带到民众那里。

后来，当有些人心里刚硬、不肯信从，在会众面前诽谤这道的时候，保罗就离开他们，把门徒们分别出来，天天在特拉诺斯讲堂里讲论。

你们以为我来了，是给地上带来和平吗？不是的！我告诉你们：其实还是分裂。从今以后，一家五口将要分裂：三个与两个，两个与三个分裂。他们将要分裂：父亲反对儿子，儿子反对父亲而分裂；母亲反对女儿，女儿反对母亲而分裂；婆婆反对媳妇，媳妇反对婆婆而分裂。”
