可是當帖撒羅尼迦的猶太人知道保羅又在庇里亞城傳揚神的話語時，就來到那裡煽動、攪擾民眾。

那七天快要結束的時候，從亞細亞省來的一些猶太人看到保羅在聖殿裡，就煽動整個人群，下手捉拿他，

散會以後，許多猶太人和入猶太教的敬神之人，跟從了保羅和巴拿巴。他們兩個人與這些人談論，勸導他們繼續留在神的恩典中。

我親愛的弟兄們，請聽！神難道不是揀選了世上的那些貧窮人，使他們在信仰上富有，並且做他國度的繼承人嗎？這國度是他應許給愛他之人的。但你們卻侮辱了這貧窮人！那欺壓你們、把你們拉上法庭的，難道不是那些富有的人嗎？

他們又煽動民眾、長老和經文士們就忽然來抓住司提反，把他帶到議會，

當時，有從天下各國來的虔誠的猶太人，住在耶路撒冷。

我見證他們對神有熱心，但不是按著真正的認識。

因耶和華的話語而戰兢的人哪，你們要聽他的話！他說：「你們的兄弟，就是那些恨惡你們、因我名的緣故逼迫你們的，曾說：『願耶和華得榮耀，好讓我們看見你們的喜樂吧！』他們卻必蒙羞。」

他們在這城逼迫你們，你們就逃到別的城去。我確實地告訴你們：在你們走遍以色列的城鎮之前，人子必定來臨。

可是保羅對他們說：「我們是羅馬公民，並沒有被定罪，他們卻當眾打我們，把我們投進監獄。現在他們還要悄悄地把我們趕出去嗎？當然不行！讓他們親自來領我們出去！」那些刑杖官把這些話報告給官長們，官長們一聽他們是羅馬公民，就懼怕了，於是來安撫他們，並且把他們領出來，請求他們離開那城。

弟兄們，想一想你們所蒙的召喚：按人的標準，你們當中有智慧的不多，有權勢的不多，出身高貴的也不多。然而神卻揀選了世上愚拙的，為了使那些有智慧的羞愧；神又揀選了世上軟弱的，為了使那些強壯的羞愧；神也揀選了世上出身低微的、被人藐視的，就是那些不是什麼的，為了要廢除那些是個什麼的，好使所有的人在神面前都不能自誇，

他們就開始央求耶穌離開他們的地區。

這些猶太人不但殺了主耶穌和先知們，也驅逐了我們，並且不討神的喜悅，又與所有的人作對，阻止我們向外邦人傳道使外邦人得救。這樣，他們常常積滿自己的罪孽，而神的震怒在最後臨到了他們身上！

掃羅也贊同殺害司提反。從那一天開始，有大逼迫臨到耶路撒冷的教會。除了使徒以外，他們都分散到猶太和撒馬利亞地區。
