Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up.All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha( in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor.About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him,“ Please come at once!”Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said,“ Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon. Then he said to him,“ Follow me!”Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them.( This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said,“ Lord, who is going to betray you?”)When Peter saw him, he asked,“ Lord, what about him?”Jesus answered,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. (niv)

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip,“ Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.Philip answered him,“ It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” (niv)

Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison.“ Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said, and then he left for another place. (niv)

After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth.“ Follow me,” Jesus said to him,and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. (niv)

“ You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter. He replied,“ I am not.” (niv)

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. (niv)

The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.“ Come, follow me,” Jesus said,“ and I will send you out to fish for people.”At once they left their nets and followed him.Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer— at three in the afternoon.Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said,“ Look at us!”So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.Then Peter said,“ Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.When all the people saw him walking and praising God,they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,“ Peace be with you!”Then he said to Thomas,“ Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”Thomas said to him,“ My Lord and my God!”Then Jesus told him,“ Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (niv)

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.It contained all kinds of four- footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds.Then a voice told him,“ Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”“ Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied.“ I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”The voice spoke to him a second time,“ Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate.They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him,“ Simon, three men are looking for you.So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”Peter went down and said to the men,“ I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”The men replied,“ We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God- fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along.The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence.But Peter made him get up.“ Stand up,” he said,“ I am only a man myself.”While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.He said to them:“ You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”Cornelius answered:“ Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before meand said,‘ Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.” (niv)

Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him,“ You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying,“ I am not.”One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him,“ Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?”Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. (niv)

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them moneyand said,“ Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”Peter answered:“ May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”Then Simon answered,“ Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages. James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. (niv)

Finding Philip, he said to him,“ Follow me.”Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.Philip found Nathanael and told him,“ We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote— Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”“ Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.“ Come and see,” said Philip. (niv)
