奸詐、躁妄、自衒、好佚樂、不好上帝、

不信乎友、苟且自衒、樂佚樂、不愛上帝、

奸詐賣友、任意妄為、倨傲自大、專愛宴樂、不愛天主、

叛逆無信、剛愎自用、桀傲成性、不愛天主、惟愛荒逸、

treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

They will turn against their friends. They will act without thinking. They will think they are better than others. They will love what pleases them instead of loving God.

They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said,“ The Lord rebuke you.”

For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you.They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing,but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error.They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.What the true proverb says has happened to them:“ The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.

That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.

For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

but she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
