When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying and heaped abuse on him. (niv)

There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, (niv)

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; (niv)

Are they servants of Christ?( I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again.Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— (niv)

From six calamities he will rescue you; in seven no harm will touch you.In famine he will deliver you from death, and in battle from the stroke of the sword. (niv)

At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. (niv)

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?As it is written:“ For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him,but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him.But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall. (niv)

He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.” (niv)

The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks. (niv)

if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. (niv)

Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead.But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, (niv)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. (niv)

I will say of the Lord,“ He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (niv)

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (niv)

They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. (niv)

He at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done. (niv)

But the Jewish leaders incited the God- fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region.So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. (niv)

The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.More than forty men were involved in this plot.They went to the chief priests and the elders and said,“ We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.Then Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”So he took him to the commander. The centurion said,“ Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked,“ What is it you want to tell me?”He said:“ Some Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him.Don’t give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request.”The commander dismissed the young man with this warning:“ Don’t tell anyone that you have reported this to me.”Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them,“ Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.” (niv)

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings.We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. (niv)

The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him. (niv)

I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me— the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. (niv)
