There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies.

And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.

For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. And if judgment begins with us, what terrible fate awaits those who have never obeyed God’s Good News?

Pour out your wrath on the nations that refuse to acknowledge you— on kingdoms that do not call upon your name.

Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

“ Then the King will turn to those on the left and say,‘ Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.

Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live,looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.

He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.

Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so called gods that do not even exist.

For our God is a devouring fire.

when I sharpen my flashing sword and begin to carry out justice, I will take revenge on my enemies and repay those who reject me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh— the blood of the slaughtered and the captives, and the heads of the enemy leaders.”’

From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance.Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him.He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.“ Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?

And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.

I stood as an intermediary between you and the Lord, for you were afraid of the fire and did not want to approach the mountain. He spoke to me, and I passed his words on to you. This is what he said:

“ In the distant future, when you are suffering all these things, you will finally return to the Lord your God and listen to what he tells you.

The people are like the dead branches of a tree, broken off and used for kindling beneath the cooking pots. Israel is a foolish and stupid nation, for its people have turned away from God. Therefore, the one who made them will show them no pity or mercy.

For the time has come for me to avenge my people, to ransom them from their oppressors.I was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So I myself stepped in to save them with my strong arm, and my wrath sustained me.I crushed the nations in my anger and made them stagger and fall to the ground, spilling their blood upon the earth.”

And I will destroy those who used to worship me but now no longer do. They no longer ask for the Lord’s guidance or seek my blessings.”

“ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”

After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

They shouted to the Lord and said,“ O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”

For we know the one who said,“ I will take revenge. I will pay them back.” He also said,“ The Lord will judge his own people.”

And they cried to the mountains and the rocks,“ Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”

You will capture all your enemies. Your strong right hand will seize all who hate you.You will throw them in a flaming furnace when you appear. The Lord will consume them in his anger; fire will devour them.

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

O Lord, the God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth!

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’”Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth!Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!

I will take revenge; I will pay them back. In due time their feet will slip. Their day of disaster will arrive, and their destiny will overtake them.’

“ But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars— their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.

So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.

As soon as they hear of me, they submit; foreign nations cringe before me.

In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.

“ You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while flames from the mountain shot into the sky. The mountain was shrouded in black clouds and deep darkness.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.

Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.

“ Where is your father?” they asked. Jesus answered,“ Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.”

But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him.

not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I worked among them.

Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you? For the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the cross.

For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.

But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said,“ Lord, who has believed our message?”

Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the Lord

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.

“ Is that so?” retorted Pharaoh.“ And who is the Lord? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I don’t know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.”

They pile lie upon lie and utterly refuse to acknowledge me,” says the Lord.

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.
