Now the anger of the Lord burned against Israel again, and He incited David against them to say,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.”

The Lord was very angry with Israel. He stirred up David against them. He said,“ Go! Count the men of Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go, number Israel and Judah.”

Once again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he caused David to harm them by taking a census.“ Go and count the people of Israel and Judah,” the Lord told him.

The LORD’s anger burned against Israel again, and he stirred up David against them to say,“ Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say,“ Go, number Israel and Judah.”

And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel again, and He stirred up David against them to say:“ Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.”

And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

The LORD’s anger again raged against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go count Israel and Judah.”

Again Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

But David did not count those twenty years of age and under, because the Lord had said He would multiply Israel as the stars of heaven.Joab the son of Zeruiah had begun to count them, but did not finish; and because of this, wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not included in the account of the chronicles of King David.

Then Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to count Israel.

No one is to say when he is tempted,“ I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

“ But if the prophet is persuaded so that he speaks a word, it is I, the Lord, who have persuaded that prophet; and I will stretch out My hand against him and eliminate him from among My people Israel.

This is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, I am going to raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.

And the Lord said,‘ Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth gilead?’ And one spirit said this, while another said that.Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said,‘ I will entice him.’And the Lord said to him,‘ How?’ And he said,‘ I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’ Then He said,‘ You shall entice him, and you will also prevail. Go and do so.’Now then, behold, the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours; and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”

Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the presence of the Lord. And the Lord said,“ It is because of Saul and his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them( now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the sons of Israel had made a covenant with them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah).David said to the Gibeonites,“ What should I do for you? And how can I make amends, so that you will bless the inheritance of the Lord?”Then the Gibeonites said to him,“ For us it is not a matter of silver or gold with Saul or his house, nor is it for us to put anyone to death in Israel.” Nevertheless David said,“ I will do for you whatever you say.”So they said to the king,“ The man who destroyed us and who planned to eliminate us so that we would not exist within any border of Israel—let seven men from his sons be given to us, and we will hang them before the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of the Lord.” And the king said,“ I will give them.”But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord which was between them, between David and Saul’s son Jonathan.So the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, Armoni and Mephibosheth whom she had borne to Saul, and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul, whom she had borne to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.Then he handed them over to the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the mountain before the Lord, so that the seven of them fell together; and they were put to death in the first days of harvest at the beginning of barley harvest.And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until it rained on them from the sky; and she allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day nor the wild animals by night.When it was reported to David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done,then David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh gilead, who had stolen them from the public square of Beth shan, where the Philistines had hanged them on the day the Philistines struck and killed Saul in Gilboa.He brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan, and they gathered the bones of those who had been hanged.Then they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the grave of his father Kish; So they did everything that the king commanded, and after that God responded to prayer for the land.

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to keep many people alive.

Now then, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant. If the Lord has incited you against me, may He accept an offering; but if it is people, cursed are they before the Lord, because they have driven me out today so that I would have no share in the inheritance of the Lord, saying,‘ Go, serve other gods.’

Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me ahead of you to save lives.

I also gave them statutes that were not good, and ordinances by which they could not live;

For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, so that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.

to do whatever Your hand and purpose predestined to occur.

But the king said,“ What business of mine is yours, you sons of Zeruiah? If he curses, and if the Lord has told him,‘ Curse David,’ then who should say,‘ Why have you done so?’ ”
