耶和華的話臨到耶利米，是關於旱災的事：“猶大悲哀，她的城鎮（“城鎮”原文作“城門”）衰落，人人都坐在地上悲傷痛哭；耶路撒冷的哀聲上達於天。他們的顯貴差派童僕去打水；童僕來到池邊，卻找不到水，就拿著空的器皿回來；他們失望難過，蒙著自己的頭。土地乾裂，因為地上沒有雨水；農夫失望，都蒙著自己的頭。甚至母鹿在田野生產了小鹿，也得把牠丟棄，因為沒有青草。野驢站在光禿的高岡上，像野狗喘著氣；牠們雙目發呆，因為沒有青草。”“耶和華啊！即使我們的罪孽指證我們，還求你因你名的緣故施行拯救。我們實在多次背道，得罪了你。

於是，大衛吩咐年輕人把他們殺了，並且砍斷他們的手腳，把身體掛在希伯崙的水池旁邊；卻把伊施波設的頭拿去，埋葬在希伯崙押尼珥的墳墓裡。

他又呼喚我，對我說：“你看，那些出來往北方之地去的，已經在北方之地使我心靈的忿怒平息下來。”

摩西對他們說：“耶和華以色列的神這樣說：‘你們各人要把自己的劍佩在大腿上，在營中往來行走，從這門到那門；你們各人要殺自己的兄弟、鄰舍和親人。’”利未的子孫照著摩西的話作了；那一天，人民中被殺的約有三千人。摩西說：“今天你們要奉獻自己歸耶和華為聖，因為各人犧牲了自己的兒子和兄弟，好使耶和華今天賜福給你們。”

於是他們把約拿抬起來，投在海裡，怒濤就平息了。

於是耶和華為了自己的地發熱心，憐恤他的子民。耶和華應允他的子民，對他們說：“看哪！我必賜給你們五穀、新酒和新油，你們必吃得飽足，我必不再使你們成為列國中的羞辱。

今天你離開我以後，在便雅憫境內的泄撒，靠近拉結墳墓的旁邊，必遇見兩個人。他們會對你說：‘你去尋找的那幾頭母驢已經找到了。現在你父親放下了母驢的事，反而為你擔憂，說：我為我的兒子要怎麼辦呢？’

主耶和華向我這樣顯示：看哪！替王收割之後，田產又開始生長時，主造出一群蝗蟲。蝗蟲吃盡地上的農產時，我說：“主耶和華啊！求你寬恕，因雅各太弱小，怎能站立得住呢？”耶和華對這事改變心意，耶和華說：“這事不會發生。”主耶和華向我這樣顯示：看哪！主耶和華召來刑罰的火，燒毀廣大的深淵和以色列的地業。因此我對主耶和華說：“求你停止吧！因雅各太弱小，怎能站立得住呢？”耶和華對這事改變心意。主耶和華說：“這事也不會發生。”

他們把押尼珥埋葬在希伯崙。王在押尼珥的墓旁放聲大哭，眾人也都哭了。

要給他和他的後裔作為永遠擔當祭司職分的約，因為他為他的神有忌邪的心，為以色列人贖罪。’”

以利亞對他們說：“捉住巴力的先知，一個也不要讓他們逃脫。”於是眾人捉住他們。以利亞帶他們下到基順河邊，在那裡殺了他們。以利亞對亞哈說：“你上去吃喝吧！因為已經有下大雨的響聲了。”
