The men of Judah came and there they anointed David as king over the people of Judah. David was told,“ The people of Jabesh Gilead are the ones who buried Saul.”

Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah. When David was told that it was the men from Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul,

When the residents of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,all their warriors set out and traveled throughout the night. They took Saul’s corpse and the corpses of his sons from the city wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.They took the bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh; then they fasted for seven days.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

When all the leaders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, King David made an agreement with them in Hebron before the LORD. They designated David as king over Israel.

So Samuel took the horn full of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. The Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day onward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah.

Now be courageous and prove to be valiant warriors, for your lord Saul is dead. The people of Judah have anointed me as king over them.”

When the Philistines heard that David had been designated king over Israel, they all went up to search for David. When David heard about it, he went down to the fortress.

All the men of Judah replied to the men of Israel,“ Because the king is our close relative! Why are you so upset about this? Have we eaten at the king’s expense? Or have we misappropriated anything for our own use?”

David was king in Hebron over the people of Judah for seven and a half years.

When all the leaders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, David made an agreement with them in Hebron before the LORD. They anointed David king over Israel, just as the LORD had announced through Samuel.

Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies, your father’s sons will bow down before you.You are a lion’s cub, Judah, from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches and lies down like a lion; like a lioness– who will rouse him?The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him.

Then King David sent a message to Zadok and Abiathar the priests saying,“ Tell the elders of Judah,‘ Why should you delay any further in bringing the king back to his palace, when everything Israel is saying has come to the king’s attention.
