他們的姊妹是洗魯雅和亞比該。洗魯雅的兒子是亞比篩、約押和亞撒黑，共三人。

就帶領眾人前往，要和尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利爭戰，他們在基遍的大水池旁遇見他。

雖然約押沒有擁護押沙龍，卻擁護了亞多尼雅；這消息傳到約押那裏，他就逃到耶和華的帳幕，抓住祭壇的翹角。有人告訴所羅門王：「約押逃到耶和華的帳幕，看哪，他在祭壇的旁邊。」所羅門就派耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅，說：「去，殺了他。」比拿雅來到耶和華的帳幕，對約押說：「王這樣吩咐：『你出來吧！』」他說：「不，我要死在這裏。」比拿雅就去回覆王，說：「約押這樣說，他這樣回答我。」王對他說：「你可以照着他的話去做，殺了他，把他葬了，好叫約押流無辜人血的罪不歸在我和我的父家。耶和華必使約押的血歸到他自己頭上，因為他擊殺兩個比他又公義又良善的人，就是尼珥的兒子以色列的元帥押尼珥和益帖的兒子猶大的元帥亞瑪撒，用刀殺了他們，我父親大衛卻不知道。這二人的血必歸到約押和他後裔頭上，直到永遠；惟有大衛和他的後裔，以及他的家與王位，必從耶和華那裏得平安，直到永遠。」於是耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅上去，擊殺約押，殺死他，把他葬在曠野約押自己的家裏。王就立耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅作元帥，代替約押，又使撒督祭司代替亞比亞他。

亞多尼雅與洗魯雅的兒子約押和亞比亞他祭司商議；他們就順從亞多尼雅，幫助他。

在那裏有洗魯雅的三個兒子：約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑的腳快如野地裏的羚羊；

約押統管以色列全軍；耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅統管基利提人和比利提人；

大衛說：「誰先攻打耶布斯人，必作領袖，作元帥。」洗魯雅的兒子約押先上去，就作了領袖。
