David sent out his troops, a third under the command of Joab, a third under Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king told the troops,“ I myself will surely march out with you.”

Then David sent out his troops in military groups. One group was under the command of Joab. Another was under Joab’s brother Abishai, the son of Zeruiah. The last was under Ittai, the Gittite. The king told the troops,“ You can be sure that I myself will march out with you.”

And David sent out the army, one third under the command of Joab, one third under the command of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and one third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the men,“ I myself will also go out with you.”

王对迦特人以太说：“你是外邦逃来的人，为什么与我们同去呢？你可以回去与新王同住，或者回你本地去吧！你来的日子不多，我今日怎好叫你与我们一同飘流、没有一定的住处呢？你不如带你的弟兄回去吧！愿耶和华用慈爱诚实待你。”以太对王说：“我指着永生的耶和华起誓，又敢在王面前起誓：无论生死，王在哪里，仆人也必在那里。”大卫对以太说：“你前去过河吧！”于是迦特人以太带着跟随他的人和所有的妇人孩子，就都过去了。

第二日，扫罗将百姓分为三队，在晨更的时候入了亚扪人的营，击杀他们直到太阳近午，剩下的人都逃散，没有二人同在一处的。

耶和华是我的亮光，是我的拯救，我还怕谁呢？耶和华是我性命的保障，我还惧谁呢？那作恶的就是我的仇敌，前来吃我肉的时候就绊跌仆倒。虽有军兵安营攻击我，我的心也不害怕；虽然兴起刀兵攻击我，我必仍旧安稳。

有耶和华帮助我，我必不惧怕，人能把我怎么样呢？在那帮助我的人中，有耶和华帮助我，所以我要看见那恨我的人遭报。投靠耶和华，强似倚赖人；

他就把他的人分作三队，埋伏在田间，看见示剑人从城里出来，就起来击杀他们。

虽有成万的百姓来周围攻击我，我也不怕。

基甸和跟随他的一百人，在三更之初才换更的时候，来到营旁，就吹角，打破手中的瓶。

大卫听见了，就差派约押统带勇猛的全军出去。亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵；琐巴与利合的亚兰人、陀伯人，并玛迦人，另在郊野摆阵。约押看见敌人在他前后摆阵，就从以色列军中挑选精兵，使他们对着亚兰人摆阵。其余的兵交与他兄弟亚比筛，对着亚扪人摆阵。

依我之计，不如将以色列众人，从但直到别是巴，如同海边的沙那样多，聚集到你这里来，你也亲自率领他们出战。
