喇合既匿二人、則曰、有人至我、不知何自、迨暝、閉邑門時、二人已出、不知何往、速追可及。蓋喇合引二人至屋上、有胡麻梗臚陳於彼、即藏其中。耶利歌人追至約但津、既出、邑門旋閉。未寢、喇合升屋、謂其人曰、耶和華曾以此地錫爾、我所素知、斯土之人懼爾、甚至喪膽、爾出埃及時、耶和華使紅海水涸、約但東亞摩哩王西宏及噩、為爾殲滅、我所風聞。我聞之喪膽、毫無銳氣、不敢敵爾、蓋爾上帝耶和華、乃天上地下之上帝、我今待爾以仁慈、請爾指耶和華而誓、亦以仁慈待我全家、示我以真實之印誌。我父母、兄弟、姊妹、及凡所有、爾必保其生存、免於死亡。二人曰、我之所為當秘勿宣、則我以己命代爾、迨耶和華以斯土予我、我必待爾以仁慈、真實無妄。喇合居室、附於邑垣、故以索縋二人、由牖而下、謂之曰、當遁於山、自匿三日、恐追者及爾、待追者反、然後前往。二人曰、爾既用絳索以縋我、必以此索、仍繫於牖、集爾父母兄弟戚屬、至於斯室、厥後我儕至斯土、則爾使我所發之誓、我必恪守。
