王問洗巴說：「你帶這些來做什麽？」洗巴說：「驢是給王的家眷騎的，餅和夏天的水果是給你的隨從吃的，酒是供他們在曠野疲憊時喝的。」

你哪天越過汲淪溪，哪天必死無疑，你的死是咎由自取。」

耶穌禱告完畢，就帶著門徒渡過汲淪溪，進了那裡的一個園子。

那孩子漸漸長大，心靈強健，在向以色列人公開露面之前，一直住在曠野。

那時，施洗者約翰來到猶太的曠野傳道，說：

亞撒還廢除了他祖母瑪迦的太后之位，因為她造了可憎的亞舍拉神像。亞撒把她的神像砍倒，放在汲淪溪燒掉。

要與喜樂的人同樂，與哀哭的人同哭。

祭司們進入耶和華的殿，把所有污穢之物搬到耶和華殿的院子裡，然後再由利未人運到外面的汲淪溪丟掉。

約翰就是以賽亞先知所說的那位，他說：「有人在曠野大聲呼喊，『預備主的道，修直祂的路。』」
