以色列王在城牆上經過時，有一個婦人向他呼求說：“我主我王啊，救救我！”他說：“如果耶和華不救你，我又從哪裡救你？是從打穀場，或是從榨酒池呢？”王對她說：“到底有甚麼事呢？”她說：“這婦人對我說：‘把你的兒子交出來，今日我們好把他吃了；明天我們可以吃我的兒子。’

亞比該見了大衛，就急忙從驢背下來，俯伏在大衛面前，臉伏於地，向他叩拜。

那童僕一離去，大衛就從石堆的南邊起來，臉伏於地，叩拜了三次。二人互相親吻，相對哭泣，大衛哭得更悲痛。

因為我救了呼救的窮人，和無人幫助的孤兒。將要滅亡的，為我祝福；我使寡婦的心歡呼。我以公義作衣服穿上；我的公平好像外袍和冠冕。

那城裡有一個寡婦，常常來到他那裡，說：‘求你給我伸冤，使我脫離我的對頭！’他多次不肯，後來心裡說：‘我雖然不懼怕神，也不尊敬人，只是因為這寡婦常常來麻煩我，就給她伸冤吧，免得她不斷地來纏擾我。’”
