Why have you despised the word of the Lord, by doing evil in His sight? You have struck and killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, you have taken his wife as your wife, and you have slaughtered him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.

Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

Why did you turn your back on what I told you to do? You did what is evil in my sight. You made sure that Uriah, the Hittite, would be killed in battle. You took his wife to be your own. You let the men of Ammon kill him with their swords.

Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

Why, then, have you despised the word of the Lord and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.

Why then have you despised the LORD’s command by doing what I consider evil? You struck down Uriah the Hethite with the sword and took his wife as your own wife— you murdered him with the Ammonite’s sword.

Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon.

Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do that which is evil in his sight? thou hast smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

For rebellion is as reprehensible as the sin of divination, And insubordination is as reprehensible as false religion and idolatry. Since you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.”

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the Law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those which their fathers followed.

Then David sent messengers and had her brought, and when she came to him, he slept with her; and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house.

Now then, the sword shall never leave your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

So in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.He had written in the letter the following:“ Station Uriah on the front line of the fiercest battle and pull back from him, so that he may be struck and killed.”So it was as Joab kept watch on the city, that he stationed Uriah at the place where he knew there were valiant men.And the men of the city went out and fought against Joab, and some of the people among David’s servants fell; and Uriah the Hittite also died.Then Joab sent a messenger and reported to David all the events of the war.He ordered the messenger, saying,“ When you have finished telling all the events of the war to the king,then it shall be that if the king’s wrath rises and he says to you,‘ Why did you move against the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall?Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did a woman not throw an upper millstone on him from the wall so that he died at Thebez? Why did you move against the wall?’— then you shall say,‘ Your servant Uriah the Hittite also died.’ ”So the messenger departed and came and reported to David everything that Joab had sent him to tell.The messenger said to David,“ The men prevailed against us and came out against us in the field, but we pressed them as far as the entrance of the gate.Also, the archers shot at your servants from the wall; so some of the king’s servants died, and your servant Uriah the Hittite also died.”Then David said to the messenger,“ This is what you shall say to Joab:‘ Do not let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another; fight with determination against the city and overthrow it’; and thereby encourage him.”Now when Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.When the time of mourning was over, David sent servants and had her brought to his house and she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the Lord.

if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said that I would bless it.

I certainly will require your lifeblood; from every animal I will require it. And from every person, from every man as his brother I will require the life of a person.Whoever sheds human blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made mankind.

“ You shall not murder.“ You shall not commit adultery.

Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge.

Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubble, And dry grass collapses in the flame, So their root will become like rot, and their blossom blow away like dust; For they have rejected the Law of the Lord of armies, And discarded the word of the Holy One of Israel.

Lord, You have searched me and known me.You know when I sit down and when I get up; You understand my thought from far away.

You have placed our guilty deeds before You, Our hidden sins in the light of Your presence.

He also made his sons pass through the fire in the Valley of Ben hinnom; and he practiced witchcraft, used divination, practiced sorcery, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger.

But the person who does wrong defiantly, whether he is a native or a stranger, that one is blaspheming the Lord; and that person shall be cut off from among his people.Since he has despised the word of the Lord and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt will be on him.’ ”
