David thought,“ I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father. When David’s men came to the land of the Ammonites,

David thought,“ I’m going to be kind to Hanun. His father Nahash was kind to me.” So David sent messengers to Hanun. He wanted them to tell Hanun how sad he was that Hanun’s father had died. David’s messengers went to the land of Ammon.

And David said,“ I will deal loyally with Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father dealt loyally with me.” So David sent by his servants to console him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the Ammonites.

David said,“ I am going to show loyalty to Hanun just as his father, Nahash, was always loyal to me.” So David sent ambassadors to express sympathy to Hanun about his father’s death. But when David’s ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon,

Then David said,“ I’ll show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent his emissaries to console Hanun concerning his father. However, when they arrived in the land of the Ammonites,

Then David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to console him about his father. But when David’s servants came to the land of the Ammonites,

Then David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.

And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me. So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

Then David said,“ I’ll show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent his emissaries to console Hanun concerning his father. However, when they arrived in the land of the Ammonites,

Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

David said,“ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

Nahash the Ammonite marched against Jabesh Gilead. All the men of Jabesh Gilead said to Nahash,“ Make a treaty with us and we will serve you.”

Then David went from there to Mizpah in Moab, where he said to the king of Moab,“ Please let my father and mother stay with you until I know what God is going to do for me.”So he had them stay with the king of Moab; they stayed with him the whole time that David was in the stronghold.

On that day the book of Moses was read aloud in the hearing of the people. They found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite may ever enter the assembly of God,for they had not met the Israelites with food and water, but instead had hired Balaam to curse them.( Our God, however, turned the curse into blessing.)When they heard the law, they removed from Israel all who were of mixed ancestry.

An Ammonite or Moabite may not enter the assembly of the LORD; to the tenth generation none of their descendants shall ever do so,for they did not meet you with food and water on the way as you came from Egypt, and furthermore, they hired Balaam son of Beor of Pethor in Aram Naharaim to curse you.But the LORD your God refused to listen to Balaam and changed the curse to a blessing, for the LORD your God loves you.You must not seek peace and prosperity for them through all the ages to come.

Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was close by, said,“ If even a fox were to climb up on what they are building, it would break down their wall of stones!”Hear, O our God, for we are despised! Return their reproach on their own head! Reduce them to plunder in a land of exile!Do not cover their iniquity, and do not wipe out their sin from before them. For they have bitterly offended the builders!So we rebuilt the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height. The people were enthusiastic in their work.( 4: 1) When Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the people of Ashdod heard that the restoration of the walls of Jerusalem had moved ahead and that the breaches had begun to be closed, they were very angry.
