非利士人與以色列人交戰，以色列人敗逃，許多人在基利波山被殺。

他們擺設宴席，坐在地毯上又吃又喝。突然有人大喊：「官長啊，起來擦亮盾牌，備戰吧！」

撒母耳把一瓶膏油倒在掃羅的頭上，親吻他，說：「耶和華已經膏立你做祂子民的首領。

我不再修剪，不再鋤地，也不再降雨，任由它荒廢，長滿荊棘和蒺藜。」

誰知道呢？或許祂轉念心生憐憫，給你們留下祝福，使你們可以再次向你們的上帝耶和華獻上素祭和奠祭。

耶和華殿中的素祭和奠祭都停止了，事奉耶和華的祭司都哀傷。

非利士人與以色列人交戰，以色列人敗逃，許多人在基利波山被殺。

次日，非利士人來剝陣亡者的衣物，發現掃羅及其眾子橫屍基利波山，

「願我出生的那日和懷我的那夜滅沒。願那日一片黑暗，被天上的上帝遺忘，沒有陽光照耀。願那日被黑暗和陰影籠罩，被密雲覆蓋，被陰暗淹沒。願那夜被幽暗吞噬，不列在年日中，不算在歲月裡。願那夜無人生育，毫無快樂之聲。願那些咒詛白日、能惹動海怪的人，咒詛那夜。願那夜的晨星昏暗，等不到晨光的出現，看不見黎明的眼簾。因為那夜沒有關閉我母胎的門，以致讓我看見患難。

「耶和華的天使說，『要咒詛米羅斯，要重重地咒詛米羅斯的居民，因為他們沒有幫助耶和華，沒有幫助耶和華攻擊強敵。』

願我出生的那天受咒詛！願我母親生我的那天不蒙祝福！願那告訴我父親喜得貴子、使他歡喜的人受咒詛！願那人像被耶和華無情毀滅的城！願他早晨聽見哀鳴，中午聽見戰爭的呐喊，

「主耶和華說，『它下到陰間的那天，我要使哀聲響起，使深淵閉塞，江河止息，洪水停滯。我要使黎巴嫩為它哀哭，田野的樹木因它而枯萎。
