亦未惜先古之世、以洪水罰彼不虔敬之惡世、惟救傳義道之挪亞等八人、

古時人欲橫流、天主亦不惜使洪水氾濫、僅有宣揚道義之諾厄及同伴七人得濟。

if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others.

藉着水，當時的世界被水淹沒而消滅了。

因着信，挪亞既蒙神指示他未見的事，動了敬畏的心，造了方舟，使他全家得救。藉此他定了那世代的罪，自己也承受了那從信而來的義。

挪亞的日子怎樣，人子的日子也要怎樣。那時，人又吃又喝，又娶又嫁，直到挪亞進方舟的那日，洪水就來，把他們全都滅了。

他藉這靈也曾去向那些在監獄裏的靈傳道，就是那些從前在挪亞預備方舟、神容忍等待的時候不信從的人。當時進入方舟，藉着水得救的不多，只有八個人。

亞當的七世孫以諾曾預言這些人說：「看哪，主帶着他的千萬聖者來臨，要審判眾人，證實一切不敬虔的人所妄行一切不敬虔的事，又證實不敬虔的罪人所說頂撞他的剛愎的話。」

挪亞的日子怎樣，人子來臨也要怎樣。在洪水以前的那些日子，人照常吃喝嫁娶，直到挪亞進方舟的那日，不知不覺洪水來了，把他們全都沖去。人子來臨也要這樣。

你要依從上古的道嗎？這道是惡人行過的。他們未到時候就被抓去；他們的根基被江河沖去。

耶和華對挪亞說：「你和你的全家都要進入方舟，因為在這世代中，我看你在我面前是個義人。凡潔淨的牲畜，你要各取七公七母；不潔淨的牲畜，你要各取一公一母；天空的飛鳥也要各取七公七母，為了要留種，活在全地面上。因為再過七天，我要降雨在地上四十晝夜，把我所造的一切生物從地面上除滅。」挪亞就遵照耶和華吩咐他的去做。當洪水在地上氾濫的時候，挪亞已六百歲。挪亞同他的兒子、妻子和媳婦都進入方舟，躲避洪水。潔淨的牲畜和不潔淨的牲畜，飛鳥及所有爬行在土地上的，都一對一對，有公有母，到挪亞那裏，進入方舟，正如神所吩咐挪亞的。過了七天，洪水氾濫在地上。挪亞六百歲那一年的二月十七日，就在那一天，大深淵的泉源都裂開，天上的窗戶也敞開了，四十晝夜有大雨降在地上。正在那日，挪亞和他的兒子閃、含、雅弗，以及挪亞的妻子和三個媳婦，都一同進入方舟。他們和一切走獸，各從其類；一切牲畜，各從其類；地上爬的一切爬行動物，各從其類；一切的鳥，就是一切有翅膀的飛禽，各從其類；凡有生命氣息的血肉之軀，都一對一對到挪亞那裏，進入方舟。凡有血肉的，都一公一母進入方舟，正如神所吩咐挪亞的。耶和華就把他關在方舟裏。洪水在地上氾濫四十天，水往上漲，使方舟浮起，方舟就從地上漂起來。水勢洶湧，在地上大大上漲，方舟在水面上漂蕩。水勢在地上極其浩大，普天下所有的高山都淹沒了。水勢洶湧，比山高出十五肘，山嶺都淹沒了。凡有血肉在地上行動的，就是飛鳥、牲畜、走獸和地上成羣的羣聚動物，以及所有的人，都死了。在乾地上凡鼻孔裏有生命氣息的都死了。耶和華除滅了地面上各類的生物，包括人和牲畜、爬行動物，以及天空的飛鳥；他們就都從地上除滅了，只剩下挪亞和那些與他同在方舟裏的。水勢洶湧，在地上共一百五十天。

當人開始在地面上增多、又生女兒的時候，神的兒子們看見人的女子美貌，就隨意挑選，娶來為妻。耶和華說：「人既屬乎血氣，我的靈就不永遠住在他裏面；然而他的年歲還可到一百二十年。」那時候有巨人在地上，後來也有；神的兒子們和人的女子們交合，生了孩子。那些人就是古代的勇士，有名的人物。耶和華見人在地上罪大惡極，終日心裏所想的盡都是惡事，耶和華就因造人在地上感到遺憾，心中憂傷。耶和華說：「我要把所造的人和走獸，爬行動物，以及天空的飛鳥，都從地面上除滅，因為我造了他們感到遺憾。」只有挪亞在耶和華眼前蒙恩。
