We told you about the time our Lord Jesus Christ came with power. But we didn’t make up clever stories when we told you about it. With our own eyes we saw him in all his majesty.

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,

or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work— which is by faith.

About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel— not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

And he said to them,“ Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.”After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.

But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.

“ Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and“ every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth“ will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen.

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.They will say,“ Where is this‘ coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them:“ See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones

So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present,

“ See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.

Be that as it may, I have not been a burden to you. Yet, crafty fellow that I am, I caught you by trickery!Did I exploit you through any of the men I sent to you?

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately.“ Tell us,” they said,“ when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

“ Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.Peter said to Jesus,“ Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters— one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.But Jesus came and touched them.“ Get up,” he said.“ Don’t be afraid.”When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?

and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

Then Jesus came to them and said,“ All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
