He took the carved Asherah pole he had made and put it in the temple, of which the Lord had said to David and to his son Solomon,“ In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever.

Manasseh had carved a pole used to worship the female god named Asherah. He put it in the temple. The Lord had spoken to David and his son Solomon about the temple. He had said,“ My Name will be in this temple and in Jerusalem forever. Out of all the cities in the tribes of Israel I have chosen Jerusalem.

And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house of which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son,“ In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

Manasseh even made a carved image of Asherah and set it up in the Temple, the very place where the Lord had told David and his son Solomon:“ My name will be honored forever in this Temple and in Jerusalem— the city I have chosen from among all the tribes of Israel.

夜間，耶和華向所羅門顯現，對他說：“我已經聽了你的禱告，也為我自己選擇了這地方作獻祭的殿。

竟把他們可憎的偶像安放在稱為我名下的殿中，污穢了這殿。

現在我揀選了這殿，把它分別為聖，使我的名永遠在這殿中；我的眼和我的心也常常留在那裡。

耶和華說：“我也要把猶大從我面前趕走，好像我把以色列除去一樣。我要丟棄我所揀選的城市耶路撒冷，以及聖殿，我曾說：‘我的名必立在那裡。’”

“如果你的子民出去與仇敵爭戰，無論你派他們到哪處，他們若是向你所揀選的這城，並向我為你的名建造的這殿禱告，

求你記念你在古時買贖的會眾，就是你贖回作你產業的民族；求你記念你所居住的錫安山。

“在你為耶和華你的神築的祭壇旁邊，不可栽種甚麼樹木，作亞舍拉。

我就必把以色列人從我賜給他們的這地上剪除，甚至為自己的名分別為聖的這殿，我也必從我面前把它丟棄不顧，使以色列人在萬族中成為笑談和譏笑的對象。

他又把他所做的雕像立在神的殿中，神曾經指著這殿，對大衛和他的兒子所羅門說：“我要在這殿裡，和在我從以色列各支派中揀選的耶路撒冷中，立我的名，直到永遠。

卻揀選了猶大支派，他所愛的錫安山。他建造了自己的聖所好像在高天之上，又像他所建立永存的大地。

我就必把以色列人從我賜給他們的土地上拔出來，並且我為自己的名分別為聖的這殿，我也必從我面前捨棄，使這殿在萬民中成為笑談和譏笑的對象。

但如果你們回心轉意歸向我，謹守遵行我的誡命，即使在你們被趕逐的天邊，我也必從那裡把他們招聚回來，帶他們到我選擇給我的名居住的地方那裡去。’

因為耶和華揀選了錫安，定意把它當作自己的居所。他說：“這是我永遠安息的居所；我要住在這裡，因為我定意這樣作。

又從耶和華的殿中除掉外族人的神和偶像，又把他在耶和華殿的山和在耶路撒冷所築的一切壇，都拋出城外。
