You took the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be your own.’“ The Lord also says,‘ I am going to bring trouble on you. It will come from your own family. I will take your wives away. Your own eyes will see it. I will give your wives to a man who is close to you. He will sleep with them in the middle of the day.You committed your sins in secret. But I will make sure that the man commits his sin in the middle of the day. Everyone in Israel will see it.’ ”Then David said to Nathan,“ I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied,“ The Lord has taken away your sin. You aren’t going to die.But you have dared to show great disrespect for the Lord. So the son who has been born to you will die.”Nathan went home. Then the Lord made David’s child very sick. That was the child David had by Uriah’s wife.

Where did they come from?”“ They came from a land far away,” Hezekiah said.“ They came to me from Babylon.”Isaiah asked,“ What did they see in your palace?”“ They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said.“ I showed them all my treasures.”Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah,“ Listen to the message of the Lord who rules over all. He says,‘ You can be sure the time will come when everything in your palace will be carried off to Babylon. Everything the kings before you have stored up until this day will be taken away. There will not be anything left,’ says the Lord.‘ Some of the members of your family line will be taken away. They will be your own flesh and blood. They will include the children who will be born into your family line. And they will serve the king of Babylon in his palace.’ ”“ The message the Lord has spoken through you is good,” Hezekiah replied. He thought,“ There will be peace and safety while I’m still living.”
