One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisrok, his sons Adrammelek and Sharezer killed him with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king.

七月十七日、舟止於亞喇臘山。

則詣所羅把伯、與族中最著者、曰、我宗事爾之上帝、與爾無異、自亞述王以撒哈頓、使我至此迄今、祭司匪懈、故欲與爾同建斯殿。

當舉旌旆於斯土、吹角於民間、使列邦攻之、會集亞喇臘、米尼、亞實基拿人、立武夫長、使驍騎咸至、若蝗眾多。

我將聳動其心、使聞一事、即歸故土、而殞於刃。○

我列祖殲滅四國、其中皆有上帝、孰一能救其民於我手、則爾上帝、焉能援爾於我手。

希西家使爾恃耶和華、望其拯爾、及爾城垣、脫於亞述王手、

當告猶大王希西家云、爾所恃之上帝、曾言耶路撒冷必不陷於亞述王、勿為所誘。

惟以色列族之上帝耶和華是賴、自古迄今、至於後世、在猶大列王間、殆亦未有若是之甚。

訕耶路撒冷之上帝、與訕人手所作列邦之上帝無異。

亞述王西拿基立遂撒其營、歸尼尼微、值崇拜於其上帝溺落之殿、其子亞得米勒、沙哩斯弒之、遁於亞喇臘國、更有一子。以撒哈頓繼位。

敵之上帝不如我之上帝、任敵裁斷、

耶和華遣使至亞述王營壘、滅諸勁旅、與武士長、亞述王恥之、遄歸故土、入其上帝殿、為子所弒。
