I’m sure you have heard about what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries. They have destroyed them completely. So do you think you will be saved?

Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, devoting them to destruction. And shall you be delivered?

You know perfectly well what the kings of Assyria have done wherever they have gone. They have completely destroyed everyone who stood in their way! Why should you be any different?

Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries: They completely destroyed them. Will you be rescued?

Behold, you yourself have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, destroying them completely. So will you be saved?

永恆主啊，亞述諸王真地使到列國和他們的地都乾燥荒涼，將他們的神像都扔在火裏；因為他們並不是神，乃是人手造的，木頭石頭的；故此他們才除滅他們。

因為他說：『我的將帥不都是王麼？迦勒挪豈不像迦基米施麼？哈瑪豈不像亞珥拔麼？撒瑪利亞豈不像大馬色麼？我的手既抓到這些偶相之國，就是有雕像勝過耶路撒冷和撒瑪利亞的之雕像的，難道我不能辦耶路撒冷和她的偶像，正如我辦撒瑪利亞和她的偶相麼？』

我和我列祖向四圍各地萬族之民所行的、你們不知道麼？各地列國的神何嘗真能援救他們本地脫離我的手呢？我列祖所毁滅歸神的那些國、其諸神中有哪一位能援救他自己的人民脫離我的手呢？難道你們的神能援救你們脫離我的手麼？

亞述王上來，走遍以色列地，上到撒瑪利亞，把它圍困了三年。何細亞九年、亞述王攻取了撒瑪利亞，使以色列人流亡到亞述，住在哈臘和歌散的哈博河邊、跟瑪代人的城市。這是因為以色列人犯罪得罪了那領他們從埃及地上來、使他們脫離埃及王法老手下的、永恆主他們的上帝、去敬畏別的神，隨從永恆主從以色列人面前所驅逐的外國人的規例、和以色列諸王所立的條規。以色列人暗暗地行了不對的事、違背永恆主他們的上帝，在他們所有的城市、從瞭望人的譙樓、到有堡壘的城、他們都築了邱壇；又在各高岡上、各茂盛樹下、立了崇拜柱子和亞舍拉神木；就在那裏在邱壇上燻祭，正像永恆主從他們面前所擄走的外國人所行的一樣；他們又行壞事來惹永恆主發怒；
